I have an Intel dual processor Mac Mini. It comes with the latest Tiger OS (10.4?) It also comes with iLife (iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD and GarageBand.)

Does it have enough real memory? I think the big mistake Ive made with mine, and the root of most of my problems with it, was my now twice attempted RAM 'upgrade'. I went from 250MB to 1GB, and while it runs nicely now, Ive had what seems like a lot of issues. I wouldnt dare try to run one of these on 250MB again. Is 512MB enough?

Also, how does it work with a USB hub? Mine has rejected two of the Apple Belkin hubs. I have given up trying to make any external hardward device work properly with a USB hub and just switch my flash reader and printer manually whenever I need to use either.

Rick,

Mini is great if you have current peripherals, mouse, keyboard, monitor to use it with.

Notebooks are awesome. I've got the 17 which is 3k and slighty cumbersome. You can get the little guy for 1k in white and 1.5k in black.

The black is a hella sweet box, just as powerful as the 17 with the exception of the video card. Video is fine for every day use but not really great for high end 3d games.

Then there is the middle of the road 15 inch. Good size and all the bells and whistles of the 17.

Right now Apple are running a "student" special, get an iPod free when you buy a box with educational discount.

It's really a credit so if you wanted a 30gb iPod video it'll cost you $90.

And they don't check, call thme up, give them a valid school and you get the discount on the box and the iPod.

2 people in my office have already done it. One of them bought a box two weeks before the promotion started and still got the deal.

Shuie, are you using hubs with external power or relying on the Mac to supply all the bus power? Self powered hubs really don't work well.

I have 1 GB ram. My old powered Belkin USB hub is working without issues.

I'd never used it before.

We're getting a Mac Mini this year or a Mac laptop or something...No ifs ands or butts.

I do everything on my PowerBook. No need for a desktop at all, except for some limited gaming I do on a Dell.

Probably not a good idea to get a Dell laptop.
