I feel so...dirty.
I'm running WindowsXP on my new MacMini.
I bought the Parallels software and I can now switch between Mac and Windows without rebooting. The Windows runs really fast on this machine, much faster than on the new Dell I was using. There is some proprietary software that I must use to complete medical records at the hospital where I work and it is Windows-only. Now I only need one computer. My Apple wireless keyboard and mouse work without a hitch, too. Impressions? The new Mac is amazing, but Gawd does it looks hideous seeing Windows load up on my beautiful Apple Cinema display. Like I said, I feel dirty... Other notes... Last weekend my 5 year old daughter had a ballet recital. I videotaped the performance on my old Sony Handycam. Yesterday morning before I left for work, Brynn told me she wanted a copy of her recital to take to her friends house. I plugged the Sony into the new Mac Mini (that has never seen that camera before) and the video was instantly downloaded. I opened iMovie, and in 30 minutes I made a nice DVD with scrolling credits, still pictures in the title frames pulled from iPhoto and set to music from iTunes. The iPhoto and iTunes media are available within the iMovie program. iMovie is so intuitive, I never read a manual or had to look for help in any way. I edited the tape, added transitions and burned the DVD IN HALF AN HOUR! iLife. Amazing stuff.

My son - the hacker in training -is running Vista on his PC. He said that it is very "OSX - like". Even though he has a PC (that he built himself) he pines for a Mac. I think he has erected a shrine to Steve Jobs...
I love my Macs. I have since 1989. Mike

Sounds like the best of both worlds. It sure makes a mac a lot more appealing. Maybe Jobs wanted to lock the market on being capabable of running the dual setup and that is why he never offered the Mac operating system in a format usable by PC's. (stock analysts where barking about him doing this last year).
Have your cake and eat it too.

That's it, I'm buying a mac! I've wanted to make the switch for a long time but just never have - partly out of fear, partly laziness I guess. Lately though, I've just had such a disdain for all things Microsoft, it might just push me to the dark side....wait, maybe I'm in the dark side now...and I need to see the light - yeah, that's it.

I have hours and hours of various footage (wedding, races, airshows, etc) that I would love to get onto DVD. I just don't have the patience to fkuc with it on my PC.
What you described is just amazing to me.

I have already decided I am buying a Mac as my next computer next summer after we move. This is coming from a hardcore PC guy, I built my last two systems.
I'll still keep a PC around, but I'm gonna go over to the dark side and see how it is.

I'm planning on buying an imac later this summer with the same intentions.
iLife is amazing too. I tend to use iMovie more than Final Cut cause I can do many of the same things and its so easy to use.

Thank you, Moses. Your post may just ne the one that convinces my wife (who is DEEP into digital photography) to consider a Mac. We have a damn near new Compaq with all the bells and whistles and a simple job like transferring from the Handy Cam is time consumig and bringing along the sound track is proving to be quite frustrating.
BTW...The Compaq itself is a mutt...in less than 15 months blowing a memory stick, crashing at least 6 times, each time worse than the last, with everything lost. I would never recommend this brand to anyone. I had to go to the State Attorney General because H-P/Compaq wiould not cover even the 512 mb memory sticks when the machine was only 10 months old.

Moses, how much RAM are they delivering the mini with these days?

512 megs is standard on the mini. If you guys are planning on doing video, i'd suggest the duo... it's a couple hundred more, but you'll get the dual core, bigger hdd (by 20 gigs), and dvd burner. $799 right now.

Nice to see some of you hard core pc guys converting...I've made many nice DVD's from video without reading a thing...very user friendly.

Last weekend I had never used iMovie before...I have a Mac G4 laptop I was using for some development stuff for work (borrowed basically) and so I figured I would give it a shot. I already knew it would be infinitely easier than it is to make a DVD on a PC as you said Moses...
So...I'm rarely successful making a decent DVD on the PC. Within 15 minutes with the laptop sitting on my wife's lap I had made a tear jerker AT&T commercial like DVD of our 18 month old from various clips and pictures. I'd never used it before. We're getting a Mac Mini this year or a Mac laptop or something...No ifs ands or butts.

The little Windows pop-up message says "Your computer may be at risk!" No *****. I'm running Windows on my Mac.

Which system are you running Moses? I am thinking about the iMac, but also am looking at the notebook. Would be used as primary home system which is budgeting, web, e-mail, photos, movies, some gaming (mostly over the internet).
