My dog found a turtle

My dog found a turtle today, or more accurately, snapped a board off the fence and dug up a turtle that was sort of under the fence.

The wife noticed the dog carrying something, sort of looked like a dirty plush toy, then I thought she had dug up some old bone when I went to take it from her. Little box turtle, sorry, no pics. Took it down to the creek, and put it someplace shady, near the water.

That is all

You could have done a little research on the internet to find out about it. It had maybe dug a burrow to stay in and should have been left there or put in another similar place.

Any turtle can swim. The house next door had been vacant for almost a year, new residents have a dog, we have two dogs, leaving him where he was(being carried around by my dog) not really an option. It was 110* yesterday, so I figured he might want some shade, and he really did not have to go swimming if not so inclined, he was near the creek, not in the creek.

Speaking of turtles, my neighbor needed some help moving dirt onto a little dam he was repairing, he catches the water and irrigates with it; and dug up some turtle eggs while there. Interesting things, like leather ping-pong balls. Didn't do anything with them, I guess you could eat them, and didn't want them to hatch either since they're Snapping Turtles, so left them sort of in place for the Racoons. They eat lots of them.

Interestingly enough, a box turtle is actually a tortoise. I don't think they can swim.
