911 turbo, main wiring harness hacked. Ugly scene.
 

I was a Barrier motors in Bellevue, WA today picking up some parts. I look out into the service bays, and there is a newer model 911 turbo convertible in pieces. Every piece of the interior is out, carpet, door panels...all of it. It looks like the engine has been lowered for access. The service bay next to the car is entirely taken up with its guts.

Turns out his poor guy took his car to a stereo shop to have them install some after market setup. Obviously not know what the F they were doing, they proceeded to hack their way into the main wiring harness in the car, and pulled out some of the wiring thinking that it was just speaker wire. Confused that the car would not start, they attempted to 'fix it'.

By the time it got to Barrier, the harness was hacked to pieces, and their techs had no idea what was left, what was changed, etc.... Its all one piece, so out came the interior. They estimate $5000-$6000 when all is said and done.

Now THAT is ugly.

Did ya happen to get the name and location of the offending shop?

Not that my '87 Carrera is all that complicated but it is in need of a working stereo and I'd prefer to avoid such a hack job kind of place.

Sorry Drago, I did not get the shops name. If you call Justin Monson in Service, he would probably know.

That's why you always leave the factory harnesses in place. Throw wire around them - never remove anything.

Sad thing about this case, these days all the wiring data and how to interface is all available from the manufacturers of the stereo / alarm gear online.

There really is no excuse, and the car isn't THAT hard to work on.

My project 944 (daily driver) had an aftermarket alarm in it that looks like it was literally installed by chimpanzees. These morons drilled some of the mounting brackets wherever they damn well pleased including right through the battery box. :mad: :mad: :mad:

Finally got all that crap removed and the offending holes patched with anti-rust compound and plugged. I swear to god, my previous owner must've been on crack to let those people at his car.

The car had a factory alarm too. And it works. So I have no idea why he felt he needed a POS aftermarket setup installed by idjuts.
