Have you seen his new work-office?.. the walls are still mudded drywall, but already the Dead posters are going up. :)

I have been at one Dead concert in my life. They played at an all day thing at RFK in DC back in 1973. In keeping with the occasion I was completely oblivious to all the bands all afternoon and evening. My brother told me the Allman Bros played also.

onlycafe 07-12-2006 07:47 AM

i got arrested at that show.

Reviving this 12 (!) year old thread to share this picture of Pigpen I just ran across. Check out the patch on his sleeve. Now it all makes sense!

I sold my DD 1967 21 window bus to pay for my honeymoon. Bit I said at the time I'd want to replace it someday with something fun. 15 years of marriage, a dozen Dead Shows, Jerry Garcia Band etc, 3 kids, etc, I bought my '72 911. I don't think it's a weird combo at all!

911boost 04-24-2018 09:31 PM

Awesome

KFC911 04-25-2018 01:50 AM

No tunes in the Carrera....the same JGB '80 show has been playing in my truck for months...mebbe some day I'll change it ;)

What a cool thread revival....sad so many are no longer here though....

Funny, the one weight-adding mod I did to my Carrera was adding an under-seat subwoofer so I could hear Phil better (not much help with no AC and open windows).

I went through a ten year period of not listening much, but recently with all the live content on Spotify and Apple music I find myself back on the bus.

I absolutely love the dead studio albums but I had/have no interest in the 20,000 cassette Bootlegs some of my friends were into in college.

Is that still a thing or are all the shows and versions easily available online these days?

JCGMS 04-25-2018 10:54 AM

Tons of live content on YouTube, websites like archive.org, and the usual streaming services. No need to reinstall the old Blaupunkt head unit.

anyone listening to the big steve hour on the sirius dead channel?

i'll be seeing dead & co, phil and DSO this summer

id10t 04-25-2018 05:36 PM

Anyone know where I can get a plain white 100% cotton sheet big enough to make a car cover for a 356 out of? I'll get my daughter to tie dye it... :)

herr_oberst 04-25-2018 06:27 PM

I gots a Pink Floyd sticker on my 911.

Ironic, because in spite of the money I dumped into it, the sound system sounds like sht.

But to the point of the PO, even though I like the Dead, and I'm old, and I used to smoke a lot of hippie lettuce, I'm not a Dead head.

First show was at Monterey Pop summer of '67 and then two weeks later in Golden Gate Park SF. Seriously life took a sharp turn after that summer.
I've got a baggy full of ticket stubs....lost count at around 400 shows. Winterland, Warfield, Avalon Ballroom, Fillmore, Cow Palace. Everywhere they played in LA.
Weirdest show was the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino where they got boo'd off the stage by about 500 Hell's Angels!
One of the best was the Shrine Auditorium in LA...after a 2 hour break they came back on stage with sweat pouring off their faces and went into an epic "Bertha". WTH were they doing for those two hours!?!?

R K T 04-25-2018 07:00 PM

Saw them play here with maybe 50 people in the audience.....$3 admission.

My old buddy "Tie Dye Paul" would know :). Not only Tees, he applied his skill to dresses and stage backdrops....HUGE ones...have been the scene at many shows I attended and graced most hippie jam band venues across the country. I always wanted one too...but thought my gf's $300, custom made hippie dress was my limit...twice, so I never asked ;).

I'd love to see dead & co but at 6-700$ for a floor seat, only if they resurrect the fat man.

I saw SRV and DT (and the Isley Bros) 3 months before the copter crash. Glad I was able to make it.

i got decent seats under the shell for $90. you have to get on the ticketmaster app immediately when they go on sale or you get screwed
