Weird combo? P-Car and Deadhead - anyone else out there?
Yeah, I know if I'm a deadhead, I'm suppossed to drive a VW van. But hey, at least I have a rear engine of german heritage.
The long hair is gone (the grey is starting to make its way in) and I only get to really party once or twice a year, but the Grateful Dead keep me sane and take me to my happy place. I just love driving in my Targa with the roof off, the sun blazing in and Jerry Garcia sending beautiful twists of guitar magic into the sky. Any other deadhead P-Car owners out there? |
What a long strange trip it's been...
|
Thats not to say that I'm narrow minded.
I'm listening right now to one of the greatest peices of music ever recorded; Little Wing by Stevie Ray Vaughan....dare I say it...even better than Jimi Hendrix's version (foregive me Jimi) |
+1 For the SRV version!
|
Agree on both points.
|
Actually, the sale of my VW Westfalia partially funded the purchase of my 911. So, I guess it was a quick transformation.
You can always go to a Phish show. (wait, they are gone too. Dang) B |
I saw SRV in concert. He gave homage to Jimi everytime he played Voodoo child
|
I saw the band play a freebe in a park in 68 in miami
with pigpen as the lead singer on flat bed truck stage they played 4 hours and then went to play a gig that night a buddy grew up in the dead family and ran the sound boards at a few shows later |
Hey Nota,
Is this the show: http://www.archive.org/details/gd68-12-29.sbd.cotsman.5425.sbeok.shnf Listening to that show might give you flashbacks - be careful! That Pig Pen was a wild singer |
The Dead are in heavy rotation in my 911. I used to go to a LOT of Dead shows. Actually had a beer with Bob Weir once.
Count me in on SRV too. I saw one show of his, musta been 20 years ago now. Wow. |
I saw my first shows at Alpine Valley '89. Went on mini-tours every year until Jerry passed. First verse I saw them play was...
'Get in the groove and let the good times roll, we're gonna stay here til we soothe our soul --- if it takes all night long...' I managed to see the boys about 35 times. I am catching Ratdog and The String Cheese Incident at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis next weekend. |
Lake George 1978 was the last one I saw.
Sometimes Uncle Jerry still calls out to me. |
Count me in. My dogs are named Samson and Casey Jones. I also drove a 78 VW Transporter and started seeing shows in the late 80's.
Checked out Ratdog at a tiny venue, maybe 200 people in 03 while my wife was pregnant with our first child. Good stuff. |
jeez, i guess i am old . i started to go see them back in '67 or '68 too.
|
Same here, just with a little "touch of grey"...Something funny, the wife & I were driving through the Alps last week, and listening to a station playing the Dead and Elvis back to back...talk about a long strange trip!
|
I still have my long hair (though it has also developed a "touch of grey"). I once dropped an 1/8 ounce of shrooms at a Dead concert in VT and thought I was a million years and knew everybody at the show personally. Vince was the keyboardist. Great set of pipes on that guy. Very sad to see him go.
+1 on the Little Wing cover by SRV. It is no disrespect to Hendrix to say that SRV recorded a transcendent version. Both are side by side in the Guitar Pantheon. |

One more, although got into the dead too late to see them in concert. Just saw Darkstar Orchestra though, it was darn good.
|
My wife is a minor Deadhead, I was neutral...unitil she bought me the, 'Deadicated' album years ago to get me acquainted.
Lyle Lovett, the Indigo Girls, Dwight Yokum et al got me over the hump. I'm no DH, but they stay in the rotation when the Targa roof is off. |
great now i have to make another playlist for the ipod.
looks like jerry and i are going to have to go for a drive sometime this week.:D |
