Grr - stuck inside on a sunny day - why did I decide to do this MBA?
 

7 - yes count them 7 years ago I decided to take my MBA part time.

Well now I'm older and I probably don't need it anymore.

I'm on my last course, I've got writers block, the assigmnment is due Tuesday, the sun is shining, my Porsche needs washing and my whole summer has been flushed down the toilet.

All I want to do is say; "screw it!"

I guess I'm a "live for today" kind of guy now. Also the value of an MBA in my company is zippo!


I'm all done at 1:00pm August 25th. I'm going to get plastered and then sober up and book into a track day and rev out my aggression on my faithful steed.

The diploma certificate is huge compared to undergrad cert.

You'll be making your family proud and secure in their gene pool.

Part of the point of an MBA (or other cont edu) is the value it has at another company . . .

Final push, TB, final push...I went back to school much like you have. I drove to Johns Hopkins for class once a week for five years to get an MS in Systems Engineering (I already had an MBA, but needed an MS for work).

Round trip, with class, was about seven hours. There were days when I had to WILL myself to get in the car and get it done, especially since there were a few, 'Back to School' moments ("VCRs! The Japs will kill you on overhead!") that I had to deal with.

It is, with the degree in your rear view mirror, worth it in the end.

If it helps, that is the same story for me today. I'm stuck inside doing MBA home work. I'm one year away, doing a night school program, should be done end of next summer.

It does get old telling my 11 & 10 yr old boys that I can't take them fishing today, I have to finish home work. I know it will be a benefit for me and my family, but the commitment and burden it puts on the family is tough.

On the other hand, in today's unsure market place, I don't want to be on the sidelines crying in my soup when/if I get laid off someday in the future and I haven't continued to invest in myself and my employability.

It is an investment in the future.

I am looking at it in a positive light in one way.

When I look at it, I've been doing some kind of schooling for 31 of my last 36 years - see the long list. When I'm done my MBA, I swear that I'm done school for good. I plan to try my best at guitar lessons and maybe learn how to wrench on my own car....but thats it!

Wow....Seven years?

That is a long time. How many courses a semester?

Low and slow burn

one course every 6 months with a couple of terms off for personal reasons.

7 years is the max for the program.

I needed to maintain some kind of life through out the process

I wanted to get it over with.

Three years and two summers. At the time, I had two little ones and an understanding mate. Worked out well; I would take a vacation day every so often and devote it exclusively to the kids and one evening a month the bride got taken out to dinner and a show or movie.

Like the other posters...It is worth it, if for no other reason(s) you have something many others do not and a feeling of accomplishment.
