Chasing the phantom oil leak.
It strikes without leaving a trace of its existence.
This is on the 80SC, which I just replaced the oil return tubes on. That cleared up all spots under the car. It did not however solve completely the truly annoying leak I have. It is leaking onto the exhaust and in some cases (apparently)into the heat exchangers giving a "cute" puff of smoke into the interior while driving  It will also give a few puffs out of the engine bay after stopping and shutting the car off. But 90% of the time there is NO smoke and like I said NO spots on the ground. I guess my next step is lower valve cover gaskets (and truing the surfaces). Is there any other "usual suspect" I may be missing? The fact that it doesn't leak cold(or is being collected) should be a clue I imagine it could even be the upper valve covers so I'll do those as well. Any other spots that would only leak hot and running from above the exhaust (again assuming it's not just collecting somewhere, but I don't get a startup smokescreen) I should add that it's got SSI's if they are known for this or something.
