Did you recently discover a new (old) band?
I was at the Coldplay concert a few months ago and Richard Ashcroft from The Verve was the opening act.
I have a soft spot for english bands. We Canadians like all things english anyways. New favourite (modern) band - The Verve Coldplay have gotten too big and to be honest the song writing in their last album was brutal! They still get the girlfriend horney, but so does the Verve now - so we both win! |
has anyone heard of pink martini? really , really good band.
|
Yes but my recent discovery is Def Leppard. I was a kid during the 80s and only listened to the Beach Boys and whatever Kiis-FM was playing back then. Now since I have Sirius, I am discovering all sorts of music that I remember hearing as a kid but never knew the artists.

I heard an industrial track recently, and e-mailed the DJ that played it on the air. Turns out it was KMFDM. I was shocked they were still around.

Clan of Xymox, Twist of Shadows album. Not one bad song. Nothing sounds like them. Incredible piece of work. Why I waited so long to give them a listen, who knows? Better late than never though. Highly recommend it.

You are going to laugh, but:
Judas Priest & Iron Maiden. Not fashionable but - KICK ARSE! But geez, the outfits where a little close for comfort. Those dudes gave the Village People a run for thier money. |

I heard "Big Brown Beaver" by Primus again yesterday...it had been at least 5 years. Les Claypool knows a little about how to play the bass guitar...:D |

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones opened my ears.

HONK - HONK. And anything else they did that I can find. Heard a cut the other night.

Yeah. I just discovered Sonic's Rendevous Band. Quite possibly the best pure rock and roll band of all time. I am not sure anyone else on this board will be familiar with them. They were comprised of Fred Sonic Smith of the MC5. Scott Asheton of the Stooges, and a couple of local guys (one from Detroit band the Up) and existed from 76 to 80.
I got a live set from 78...furious rock and roll. |
Fugazi
I didnt listen to them in college, not sure why, but they are in the regular rotation now. |
These are "old" bands??? Sheesh... kids...
|
I thought I knew everything about '80s hair bands until I moved to Louisiana in '95 and heard Zebra for the 1st time.

I "rediscovered" Killing Joke....after like 14 years or so. They were old when I started listening their records.
|
I dug out my AC/DC Bon Scott era albums! Amazing stuff!
|
Did a 3000 mile drive over the weekend and listened to the Who, ZZ, ELP, and others....
|
Bon Scott era AC/DC is the greatest. I've been listening to Powerage and Let There Be Rock alot lately.
I also have been listening to I Mother Earth quite a bit. "So Gently We Go" is an amazing song. Mike |

I do this all the time:
The Call: And the Walls Came Down The Smiths: too much to list Sam Phillips: too much to list Rocky Burnette: Tired of Toein' the Line |
I have always loved Midnight Oil. I heard "Forgotten Years" yesterday on the radio, made me want to go out and buy their CD again...

Just loaded Husker Du into my Ipod. Sorry, could not find the umluts for the "u".
Thats the problem with mp3 players. I seem to stick with the 2000 or so songs that are on it and don't seem to venture to my old cds. |
Husker Du's 83-86 run of Metal Circus, Zen Arcade, New Day Rising, and Flip Your Wig is rivaled in consistency, strength, and power only by the Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet-Exile run.
Seriously. |
How about a little Mountain?
