July 2, 2006 -- Conservative scribe Ann Coulter cribbed liberally in her latest book, "Godless," according to a plagiarism expert.
John Barrie, the creator of a leading plagiarism-recognition system, claimed he found at least three instances of what he calls "textbook plagiarism" in the leggy blond pundit's "Godless: the Church of Liberalism" after he ran the book's text through the company's digital iThenticate program. He also says he discovered verbatim lifts in Coulter's weekly column, which is syndicated to more than 100 newspapers, including the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Sun-Sentinel and Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle. Barrie, CEO of iParadigms, told The Post that one 25-word passage from the "Godless" chapter titled "The Holiest Sacrament: Abortion" appears to have been lifted nearly word for word from Planned Parenthood literature published at least 18 months before Coulter's 281-page book was released. A separate, 24-word string from the chapter "The Creation Myth" appeared about a year earlier in the San Francisco Chronicle with just one word change - "stacked" was changed to "piled." Another 33-word passage that appears five pages into "Godless" allegedly comes from a 1999 article in the Portland (Maine) Press Herald. Meanwhile, many of the 344 citations Coulter includes in "Godless" "are very misleading," said Barrie, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, where he specialized in pattern recognition. "They're used purely to try and give the book a higher level of credibility - as if it's an academic work. But her sloppiness in failing to properly attribute many other passages strips it of nearly all its academic merits," he told The Post. Barrie says he also ran Coulter's Universal Press columns from the past 12 months through iThenticate and found similar patterns of cribbing. Her Aug. 3, 2005, column, "Read My Lips: No New Liberals," about U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter, includes six passages, ranging from 10 to 48 words each, that appeared 15 years earlier in the same order in an L.A. Times article, headlined "Liberals Leery as New Clues Surface on Souter's Views." But nowhere in that column does she mention the L.A. Times or the story's writer, David G. Savage. Her June 29, 2005, column, "Thou Shalt Not Commit Religion," incorporates 10 facts on National Endowment for the Arts-funded work that originally appeared in the same order in a 1991 Heritage Foundation report, "The National Endowment for the Arts: Misusing Taxpayers' Money." But again, the Heritage Foundation isn't credited. "Just as Coulter plays free and loose with her citations in 'Godless,' she obviously does the same in her columns," Barrie said. |

True. I think many out there are missing the point of Coulter's book. It is supposed to be a parody - taken tongue in cheek. I haven't read it; maybe I can find excerpts somewhere on the internet, but regardless of anything, the last book deemed plagarized (that book about a guy fighting with his drug addiction - I forget the title), was also plagarized to an extent, and even caused Oprah to lose face. Still, it remained on the NYT bestsellers list for weeks afterward.

Joe Biden - plagiarist
Ann Coulter - not a plagiarist On a side note: I ran through a brand new set of RA-1s at Big Willow this weekend. Damn that was expensive. |

Parody or no, without appropriate citation, it's plagiarism.

LOL! Me, a lefty. That's pretty damn funny. Apparently anyone who disagrees with you is a lefty.
Enjoy your delusions, they must be pretty colorful.

"In 1987, Biden quit the Democratic primary race early after the revelation that he had delivered, without attribution, passages from a speech by British Labor party leader Neil Kinnock. A barrage of subsidiary revelations by the press also hammered Biden's image: a serious plagiarism incident from his law-school years, boastful exaggerations of his academic record at a New Hampshire campaign event, and the discovery of other quotations in Biden's speeches pilfered from past Democratic politicians."
Thot thar is plagiarism, boy! |

I don't recall that question.
Just a weekend deal at the Raceway. Hot as a mofo on Saturday, cooled down a bit today, so I guess it was hot as a fo...But hot just the same...Some big guns were hanging. From the Porsche community there was some green race-prepped monster, at least 3 GT2s, a cup car (GT3?), and some GT3s...Bunch of Evos and miatas, etc, etc. I am still trying to get the lines, almost lost my ass in the dirt setting up for turn 9. You hang on the outside as you set up, it was so hot that I was slipping (everyone was) all around the track. My rear driver's side wheel came mm from seeing dirt, possibly both rear wheels....whoooooshhh...scary ***** at speed...The asphalt was so hot it was like a drift session around 2, 3, 4,5, 6, 8...I bested at 1:39.35...Not satisfied. My mind still has my body reacting to the G's around 2 and 8...I keep leaning to the left (the only time that is going to happen). ![]() Last edited by Mulhollanddose; 07-02-2006 at 09:42 PM.. |

Ann's in the business of getting everyone excited. That's good marketing. She's making money, paying taxes, employing people and laughing all the way thru. She's not known for her intellectual achievements afaik.

Do we care? It's a political device. (Not a work of academia or a piece of journalism). And somebody, somewhere has read it...ok make that somebodies.
(I get the feeling that whenever any of these come out, the majority of the copies get sold to the other political ideology to distribute among a bunch of staffers, so they can ooh/ahh, then assign a few pages to each staffer to dissect for the news shows).

Her work is absolute garbage, but it does not have a huge impact since no one really takes her seriously. She is the shrill cheerleader of the neocons, keeping them in the news through guerilla tactics that get more desperate and pathetic as time goes on.
I know that she is one of your mentors, bull-weevil, but your lunatic ravings lack the proper flair. You both sound at times like someone who lunches from dumpsters on 8th Ave. and *****s on street corners, but talent is still talent, so don't quit your day job just yet, OK?
