Sickening day. 911 trashed. So damn random.....

I simply cannot believe what happened today.

911 had not been driven in a week, beautiful day, I decide to take her out.

I'm only a mile from my house, sitting at a stop light, right lane next to the curb. There is construction on the street I am about to cross, and signs everywhere. Light turns, and as I pull forward, a gust of wind pushes one of the signs over on my car!!!!!!!!!!

Front quarter panel scraped and dented. Right side mirror torn out. I thought it was just popped out, but NO, the door is slightly warped around the mirror. Windshield broken, original antena that work perfectly destroyed, rear deck lid scratched and rear quarter panel scratched.

You can laugh if you like, but I literally feel like crying. I have insurance. How cares about ****** money....the car is my gem. She is certainly no show car, but the body was smooth, original paint in good condition. To see it all trashed. WHY? What a stupid, random ****** thing to happen.

Shouldn't the city pony up the damn cash for this? Why should Haggerty pay if one of their stupid goons failed to put sandbags down and secure a sign? Grrrrrrrrrr.......

Hey. You're OK.

Was sooooo afraid you were gonna say some idiot ran the stop sign and T-boned you, and injured kids in the car as well as totalled the car.

You're OK. The car can be fixed.

Yes, hopefully you got a police report and it indicates the sign was not secured correctly. Then you need to get whoever is responsible for seruring the sign to pay for it.

It does suck but.....a little anti-climatic. I have done worse backing out of the garage. Persue the construction crew or just file it. Give the info to your ins. co and let them worry about the follow through. This is what you pay premiums for and it will not count against you; no-fault.
Sorry about the bad day. I understand; been there.

Ben

I was going to file a report via phone on monday. I have pictures galore. Plus, a woman who saw what happend stopped and gave me her number. She was driving an Mercedes, and I think she was just as shocked as I was.

File a report ASAP and get aero mirrors.

Joeaksa 07-08-2006 07:35 PM

Agree, file a report and have the city/state pay for it. They have insurance and you should not have to take care of this.

Sad to see but no one is hurt and the damage is repairable.

Fuch!
I know that feeling!
I left 15 ft. of space behind a ******* Pick-up truck so he could get out.
You guessed it; he managed to smash both Euro lights, dented the hood.
Thanks for letting me vent.
All you can do is make the best of it.

DaveE 07-13-2006 07:07 AM

HardDrive, I can't imagine anyone here laughing about this. It sucks, plain and simple.

legion 07-13-2006 07:26 AM

I'm sorry for your loss.

I had a similar feeling when my 'S' caught on fire.

David 07-13-2006 07:27 AM

I feel for you, it seems like the little random stuff hurts the most.

I'd submit the bill to the city. I almost crashed my MC turning onto my street many years ago because they had repaved it with tar and rocks. The rocks just sit loose on the tar until it settles in so it's all loose. There was no way to know it had been paved until I turned. I called the city's (Austin) legal department and I was pissed so I fibbed a little and told them I crashed. They said to just send them the bill. I didn't do anything else, I just wanted to see what they would have done.

That's a good idea, going after the city. Who knows? With your witness, they just might pay up without a whimper, saving you from contacting your insurance carrier...

artplumber 07-13-2006 08:14 AM

Or just have your insurance company go after the city. Seems much easier, though I suppose one might worry that this would be "counted against you"

Sorry to hear about it, anyone who's religously maintained or improved their ride understands your pain.

TerryBPP 07-13-2006 08:43 AM

Smash your headlight too and gets some H4's.

Porsche-O-Phile 07-13-2006 08:45 AM

Even city crews normally carry pretty extensive insurance policies for work site claims. That's what they're there for - I'd go after it and get your car fixed.

Sorry to hear about it. If you want, I'll take the car off your hands so as to spare you the sorrow of having to look at it and be reminded of this traumatic event. . . ;)

JeremyD 07-13-2006 10:20 AM

Their error - your car - get em to make it right. Find out what insurnace carrier the construction crew uses go after them with both barrels. put a statement in writing - get the lady in the merc to get it in writing. Have both notorized make a copy with an estimate from a reputable shop to make it prefect. Send to said insurnace carrier and ask when you can expect a check.

HardDrive 07-13-2006 11:14 AM

This is coming along. I use Haggerty insurance. They are handling the whole thing. They are going to cover the repairs and go after the contruction company on their own. Still in the works. They are going to send out an inspector to check out the car. I have my choice of shops for repairs. But none of this has happened yet, so we will see....

artplumber 07-13-2006 11:20 AM

Wasn't that easier than making calls to the city to find the construction company and talk to their customer service and get transferred to another service rep.....?

Victor 07-13-2006 08:41 PM

By all means, file a report. But please PALEEZE don't do the aero mirror thing.

That would be rice.
