Name this beetle... (ie bug not musician)

My wife found this guy near her car in Tucson last night. He's right at 3" long.

Looks like a Darkling Beetle. Fused wing case. Cannot fly.

If the antennae were longer, it could be a Sawyer Beetle.

And she brought it home to you? What a wife! :)

Maybe not. Looks like the cephalothorax is too small and antennae too long.

I aint being racist, but they all look alike to me.

Next thing you know she'll want to be a pilot. Actually, Tammy brought it home for Andi. At 6, one of her career options is entomologist.

My official guess is that the beetle is a Derobrachus geminatus or palo verde root borer. http://bugguide.net/node/view/24540/bgpage This guy's so large you can actually hear him breathing!
