Sunday dinner...
I'm blessed. My 82 year old father is alive and well and as smart and ornery as he always has been. We have him over for Sunday dinner every week. My 3 kids adore him.
Tonight I cooked chicken. The smoker box was filled with wet oak from a wine barrel. Deep cabernet smoke. The chicken was dry rubbed with a hot, spicy rub then smoked at about 240 degrees for a little more than an hour. Sprayed with apple juice every 15 minutes. Stubbs as a finishing sauce. We had sweet white corn from Brentwood and watermelon and cantaloupe. Apple pie with ice cream for dessert. My wife and I are drinking a Cakebread chardonnay and my dad is drinking Anchor Steam. The kids clothes are a mess and their fingers are sticky. Smiles all around. I'm a lucky man. My grill. ![]() About 2/3 done. ![]() Brynn. The littlest one. ![]()
