The New Pirates Movie-did you see it?

What did you think. I thought it was hard to follow in parts, and the accents made it hard to understand some of what was being said. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152486571.jpg

I enjoyed it. I liked the tie-ins with the various legends, though I can see that a better balance with fewer legends and more background would have been healthier. I had no difficulty with the accents, but I thought the theatre was a little loud, so that might have done it to me.

The acting was fun, as usual. Jack Sparrow pulled off his "functioning alcoholic" routine with aplomb. Will and Liz were able to get away with being honorable and morally upright in the midst of a bizarre comedy, which takes some skill. (shrug) I'd say it was worth the $6.50.

"sticks and stones, love"...

I saw it with my kids this afternoon. Entertaining, but not quite the as fun as the first one, IMO.

And toooooo long. It could have easily been edited by 30 minutes to improve both the flow and the story, but I was left with the distinct impression that Disney wanted to jam as many F/X in as possible to justify the budget.

I'm looking forward to POTC3, which began filming last week, starring Keith Richards as Captain Jack's father...that alone will be worth the price of admission.

My wife saw it and said it was great. I'll see it next week, David

Fun movie. Not going to win any academy awards or anything and yes there was a lot of mindless drivel, but it was damn fun to watch.

I thought Keith couldn't do it because of a scheduling conflict. I hope you're right. He'd be great.

The whole Head Hunter Sequence was filler, to stretch out the plot to fill 2 movies.

They had to come up with somekind of Supernatural menace to replace the Cursed Pirate crew of the first movie... Davey Jones...who is the actor who plays him?

They did bring back every character from the 1st movie...Geoff Rush at the end...and the 2 dim witted mutt and Jeff guys. The Brit Commadore

My neighbors Kids LOVED the movie and can't stop talking about it....So I guess it has doen what it is supposed to do. Entertain.

The plot does kind of get lost in all the different action scenes...

I am anxious to see it. Got the largest gross for a single box office opening day topping the new Star Wars. I was going to see last night but was hanging out with fellow Pelicans watching UFC.

Actually, we've been filming P3 concurrent with P2 on St. Vincent and Dominica and in LA. We're on hiatus from filming until August 3, then we get back into P3. A lot of its going to be shot in a huge airplane hanger in Palmdale, CA. Lots of REALLY big gimbels that the ships will be mounted on, like several hundred tons of steel each.

I thought the first one sucked and I refuse to see sequels (or remakes) now even when the first one was good. Maybe when it comes out of DVD and there's just nothing else to rent.

Hugh - You gonna love this. I am in culture shock right now.

My full time home is in South Florida where we have the choice of many 16+ multiplexes. Never a problem getting a ticket usually fandango it, go to the theater, throw my CC in a slot and bam I have tickets and no line.

I am in a little town called Sylva North Carolina, this is where we have our vacation home. We decided at the last minute to go see Pirates. There is a 3 plex up the street. We drove past to check the movie times, 2-5 and 8. That is it.

We were driving through the parking lot at 2:40 and the line was across the lot. Reminded me of the old Empire Strikes Back days waiting all day on line playing frisbie etc.. to get in and see it.

There is a sign on the window, "No advance ticket sales". So we decided to head back over for the 8:00 showing. Sold out by 7:30.

Didn't get to see it. We are Heading to Lexington Kentucky to see my Brother next weekend, we decided to go see it there.

madmmac 07-10-2006 07:46 AM

Too many stories within a story, makes for not a very strong story.

I agree, the wife, kids, and friends all had problems understanding a fair bit of the dialogue.

Very slow for quite a while. Not nearly as entertaining when Jack is not on screen.

Entertaining in the end, but the first was much better in my opinion.

Unless you were passing a kidney stone during the movie, I can't imagine not liking that film.

My wife and I loved the first one. We tried to make it to see 2 this weekend but should've bought advance tickets...the line to get in was sizable and our time 'window' was sold out. Saw Cars instead. Great, great film but I still wish we could've seen P2 as planned.

We're going to try again as soon as we can line up another babysitter!

Wrecked944 07-10-2006 09:06 AM

I really enjoyed it. Lots of fun. I lost maybe three lines at most because of accents and had no trouble following the plot lines. Can't wait for the next one.

That is funny.
Really liked the first one. Hope to see the new one this week.
Have not read any reviews so we will just go and see, no expectations.....

Rick Lee 07-10-2006 10:28 AM

I guess I'm an old curmudgeon. I just can't stand going to the movies anymore and so it takes a really great one for me to remotely enjoy the experience.

pwd72s 07-10-2006 10:30 AM

Me too, don't enjoy going to the movies...I'll catch it on video...

kaisen 07-10-2006 10:33 AM

$132 million at the box office opening weekend! Clobbered Spider Man's record.

Davy Jones was Bill Nighy. I found him to be the most interesting character in the movie.

I also thought the movie was too long but in the end worth seing.

I didn't care for the overdone costuming of Davy Jone's crew. They blended completley together and lost their individuality. Just found it annoying.

Hugh, I looked for you in the credits. Just saw a water safety and second set (?) safety person. Where were you bud?
