I downloaded bearshare. Nothing but trouble since. Warning you are getting into something malicious.

Yup. All of them have spyware/adware except WinMX

LimeWire is good, since it is Open. Or gtk-gnutella. Truly Open on that one.

Been using it for over a year, about 90% of our pilots use it and not a problem what so ever.

Its what keeps us sane while overseas by being able to watch current television and movies.

Almost any program these days has some sort of spyware on it. Anyone not using AdAware or the like need to start. I do an AdAware check almost every day and delete the 'bots.

As well you cannot just download one of these P2P sharing programs and start downloading something. In the hundreds of programs or video's I have downloaded (I have a real problem missing CSI and Prison break while out flying) three of them have had a virus attached. Norton caught everyone of them...

Shareaza is clean of spyware/ad-ware. Shareaza works on 3 different networks.

Have used Shareaza as well and it worked well. I just get more hits off of Bearshare so started using it.

BitTorrent is the way to go.

out of curiousity, what are you guys using these programs for?

downloading videos, music, programs, books, Top Gear episodes, etc....

None of them illegal, or pirated, of course.

You can download anything you feel like. Problem is that a lot of people are getting illegal stuff like current run movies and songs.

The heavies are on there as well, and one of my friends spent a day downloading "Munich" and when he tried to play it turns out that it was a old western movie. The studios have people who rename files and put them out there to hassle the people trying to download movies without buying them.

I get television programs on bearshare when I am overseas. CSI, Prison Break, Desp Housewives and so on. Yes, they are a few months out of date but its better than watching TV in Farsi, Hebrew, Italian or whatever they speak in Africa...

As well you can get computer programs and games off of that site but I will not do it. Too many programs with a virus on them there...

Kazaa lite is good. No ads. No spyware.

I had an old copy of Bearshare that was ad-free and spyware free. You only got loaded down with the spyware crap if you downloaded the "freeware" version.

Yes, but you have to install the patch, which changes the hard-coded cache servers (or somesuch)

I use Bearshare from time to time. No problems. I just remove the spyware it puts on and violate their agreement. Just be aware that it does put annoying software on your computer.

If you look at the replies/comments to a lot of torrents, you can figure out which ones are bogus/crippled/mis-named/infected. Ain't perfect, but better than nothing.

And run good antivirus/spyware killin' software too.
