Moving to Dallas??? Anybody around 7/21-22?

Hi everyone,

My family (wife, 2-year old daughter, and a 1987 911 Coupe!) and I currently live in New Jersey and I have recently been given the opportunity to relocate to the Dallas area (Lewisville, specifically). My wife and I have done a lot of Internet research on the area and really like the town of Southlake for its commuting distance, good schools, and lovely homes. The Internet can only give you so much, however. To really get to know a place, you need to go there and talk to people who live there.

We’ll be flying into Dallas next Friday morning (7/21) for a cursory weekend “evaluation” of this opportunity. We aim to meet with a realtor on Saturday morning to get a property analysis and a view of the local amenities/activities and get a feel for the community (albeit with a real estate marketing slant!).

I was wondering if someone from the area would be available at some point on Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening (or even over the phone next week) to get together to give us a “crash course” in the good, the bad, and the ugly of living in the Dallas area. If you can provide a similar viewpoint to ours (mid-30’s couple with 1 small child), that would be fabulous! PM me and I can give you my cell phone number and we can talk.

This is a very difficult (yet exciting) decision for us, in that we have no family or friends in the area, but we have been looking for a change for quite some time. I haven't made a decision yet, but I'm obviously very serious about it. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to meeting some Pelicans!

Thanks in advance,

Guhan

I may be able to help you. I was going to be out of town, but I think I'm not going at this point. We live in Highland Village, a wonderful little area north of Flower Mound and Lewisville. Probably the nicest, quitest and safest town in the area. My office is in Southlake, which is nice, but too congested, IMO, and bigger price tags. We could shoot for meeting somehow on Saturday.

Now the irony, we may be listing our house as we're looking at a move back to California.

Lived in Dallas for 5 years in the 90's and Lewisville, Flower Mound, Carroltown area's are nice. Might look a bit futher North, around where Lube or Ed lives as well. South in Grapevine is too expensive now that its being built up.

Ed, sell your house to this gent! No realtor fees and it would help both of you guys!

Ed,

I returned from a long trip to Europe a while back. Had just made up my mind to buy a house and stop renting. Flew with a young copilot the next day and mentioned to him that I was looking and where did he live.

Turns out that he and his wife had just made the decision to quit the job and move to Houston and their house was going on the market the next week.

Long story short I bought his house and we both saved thousands in realtor fees. That was the house in Flower Mound that I lived in for years.

Its worth a try and just might work, besides the house and neighbours are used to seeing a Porsche there, so it would be a nice mix!

Joe

Also,
I can provide some real world advice on real estate agents as well as some mortage folk. We went through hell and back when we first got here. I would strongkly suggest looking at Highland Village or South Lake. Check out this link: http://www.dmagazine.com//article.asp?articleid=1097 It will provide you additional insight. I know a real estate agent who is my Sons soccor coach and a very honorable man. I trust him with my Son. You don't know me yet but that very thing means a loads. It is worth a talk to him. Also, if you do have a little free time on Friday night or Saterday, prehaps we could hook up. feel free to PM me. Do you have a ride from the Airport? Where re you staying?
