A most fortunate bad day
The result of generous then sticking throttles in a vintage McLaren CanAm car. The driver and his(?) ~14 year old son were headed to Elkhart Lake (from Road America) after Friday's (yesterday) practice. The International Challenge has a pararde tradition on Friday and Saturday night that is very well received in the local community. As far as I could determine, neither driver or passenger were helmeted or restrained. Presumably they were ejected (or jumped) as the car rolled onto its top in the swamp next to the road. Had they not been out of the car at its final rest, I would strongly suspect they would have drown. Even though the car took a big hit, they are/were very fortunate to both be intact and of this world.

They are most fortunate. |
I was in town when it happened and saw the skid marks the next day on the road. I had heard the the owner let the crew drive it to the concours in town, but rumors spread pretty quickly.
