ARGHHH! F'ing Recruiters!
Okay; so I took the call...they had a position I was mildly interested in. Mainly it would make my commute all of a few minutes and in socal that's a good benefit.
The company's not small either which is good too. Starts with an "S" and ends in a "Y" and is pretty short. I am concerned about their current business outlook but overall it looked promising. They are getting ready to make me an offer and they start asking me about "start dates." So I say I need to give the normal 2 weeks notice and I would like a couple of days for myself to get my affairs in order so that I can concentrate 100% on the new job when I start. Never had a problem with that until the job I'm in right now. The recruiter at my CURRENT employer had me convinced that they needed me THAT day! So, I called my boss up on his vacation and gave notice over the phone like that. He's a very good guy so he understood. When I started at the new job though everyone was out of town on other projects and vacation for 3 weeks so I sat around doing just about nothing for that time. I could have given my reasonable noticed and taken a week off no problem but the recruiter lied. Now this recruiter is pulling the same **** and you know what; I've worked on a lot of tight network teams and they can wait 2 or 3 weeks for me to be reasonable with my current employer and take my coupld of days off. Still; she's pressuring the hell out of me saying "you might loose the offer if you try to give 2 weeks." So I said, "Lady, If they can't wait the customary 2 weeks for me to maintain my character, integrity and references then I don't want the job." Still, she pressed. So I said that I would need to hear this directly from the hiring manager - I need him to tell me "If you can't start tomorrow then you don't get the offer." for me to believe it. I'm ready to just say "F~! it" and stay where I am. I wasn't looking for a job anyway. There...I've vented... Thanks guys.

She wants that commission NOW, baby, NOW! Tell her exactly what you will do and what you will not do. She will get the message unless she is a complete idiot.

Any company worth working for realizes that a good employee will not just jump ship with no notice. They do not want to lose someone overnight and normally will not pressure a new person into doing that to come onboard with them.
Keep your reputation good and do the right thing. It will repay you everytime.

Exactly. I asked her "Do they really want someone ELSE who is willing to jump ship they way their last guy did?"

I agree, there's a commission involved plus extra incentive to fill the position sooner than later. Sales people like that make me ashamed to be in sales.
