Finally figured out why my neighborhood has more traffic than usual
 

We noticed recently that quite a few HS boys have been hanging around our street since summer started. These boys are the same age as my son but they don't hang together. My son says the boys don't go to the same HS but, rather, to the "alternative" HS.

Well when I got home today, I saw a neighbors daughter and her friends talking to some of the boys. She was very seductively dressed; her a$$ hanging out of her shorts, white tank top and all made up. This girl was a "Brownie" when we bought the house 5 years ago. Now she dresses like the UPS girl some guys on this board has as an avatar. Why her mom would let her dress that way, I'll never know.

I'm sure you guys with daughters don't allow them to dress any which way they like. Where do you draw the line? My neighbor is a single mom so she might just be too busy to keep a close eye on her kid.

We are going through the same thing. Two girls in the neighborhood are sophomores this fall. One right across the street and one around the corner, but not far. Neither one dress trampy, but they are both good looking. So the boys are over/driving through the subdivision all the time. One night at 3am I heard the dad across the street kicking some guy out of their house. Then the other day she got in trouble cause she was at her boy friends house for a long time when his parents were at work. I have a daughter that just turned one so I haven't had to draw the line yet, but I'm already nervous about this kind of stuff.

There's always been girls that are "ahead of their time" in the physical department. I actually do remember some as early as the 6th grade being "adult" in appearance. By the time I was a HS freshman, there were a number already having sex with some of the older guys, at least that's what the "stories" said, some of which were probably true.

You should go to South America and see what is happening. Girls as young as 9-10 having their periods and "filling out" so to speak.

Many are concerned that all the chemicals given to the beef and chicken are speeding things up in their system.

That could be true, there have been studies of the effects of hormones given to chickens in creating homosexual men, but the ones I've seen were inconclusive in my opinion.

The other issue may be our abundance and high quality diet today. Girls are physically maturing earlier in the US, that is a higher percentage are entering puberty at 10-11 years.

Which is creating problems since in many states, laws against sexual relations under age 18 have been growing more rigid, and more severe. The arrest of a young man in Nebraska on statutory rape charges by the state Attorney General despite having been married in a neighboring state, with the written consent of both parents. The girl was 15 if I recall correctly, the boy 17. Here in South Carolina you could marry at age 14 without parental consent, at least the girl could be that age, all you had to have was your original birth certificate. While not too common, I knew of two instances of folks in North Carolina where I lived most of my early life, going to South Carolina to get married. In one instance, the parents found out the next day and took their 14 y.o. daughter to a lawyer who filed annulment papers on the basis of non-consummation. I think, maybe, someone fibbed on those official documents, but I was too young then to ask.:D "She" was the older sister of a classmate of mine.

I believe the law is marriage is allowed at age 14 with parental consent.

I think you're correct currently, but that's not how the law used to read, 40+ years ago.

I know they have or are considering lowering the age of consent to 14 in SC.

That's always been an oddity here, and elsewhere I think. You could get married here at 14, but could not consent to extramarital sex until at least 16 (I think that's the age that's going to change).

Not really "lowering" -- they just passed a law that has the provision that if a girl deceives a man about her age, the man might not be prosecuted; it is a "mistake of age" provision in the new law.

I think some of the "rape advocate" groups are blowing the issue out of proportion trying to make it sound like South Carolina has lowered the age of consent to 14, which simply is not the case.

That's a little misleading. The kid was 22, and the girl was 14. The girl, by the way, is mentally handicapped. He had sex with her, got her pregnant, then the parents decided they should get married in Kansas. He wasn't charged with having sex with his wife, he was charged with having sex with a 14-year-old.

Actually, I just recently learned that the age of consent in Nebraska is 16 after a 59-year-old high school teacher had sex with a 16-year-old. They fired the teacher, but couldn't charge him with anything, since the girl said it was consentual.

My boss' noisy neighbor always told them how they were raising their daughter wrong and giving all kinds of unwant suggestions. Then the neighbor's 14yo twin girls were caught in hotel room with 3 army sargents!!!!!!!!!! The neighbor apologized for the years of stupid advice, but holy crap, how out of touch can a parent be to miss this. My boss says when the parents are out of town now, the girls are 18, car after car comes and goes at their house. The only problem is, the girls are never around when I go to visit :D
