1550 Miles in 3 days

I just drove my 911 from North Carolina to Florida and back over 3 days. I wanted to go back to my office and check in, check the house etc.. Then shoot back to NC finish working on the house here and close it up until fall.

I had a great time driving. I think I might be forming a brain tumor from all the police radar and lasers that was shot at me in Georgia.

I kept good gas consumption records this time but I did not drive nice this time either.

I left NC with a full tank and stopped just past Savannah Georgia for a fill up I drove 365 miles and used 14.89 gallons of gas = 24.51 MPG. I guess I should mention I was driving at 80+ MPH and had the targa top off. I also was not bashfull about dropping the throttle. I was not after good gas milage just making time.

I made it to my home in Florida on the second tank and drive around town on it too. When I topped off before leaving to come back to NC I had 374 miles on the odo and used 15.91 gallons = 23.50MPG, the last 30 or so miles of this was city driving. I had the targa top in for 1/2 of this tank and drive in the 80-100 MPH range through most of Florida.

On the trip back I stopped with 405 miles on the odo and added 16.02 gallons of gas = 25.3 MPG. Again, I was driving in the 80-90 MPH range for most of this leg with the targa top in.

I have in the past seen 30 MPG but that was driving at 70-80 and not hammering the throttle much.

Truckers seem to love the car I cannot count how many thumbs up I got as I was passing them. That put a smile on my face.

I had a dude in a Turbo Deisel Duelly messing with me near Daytona. He was speeding up blowing clouds of smoke then slowing down to the point of holding me up doing my steady 85 MPH. He finally moved over to let me by and gave me a thumbs up as I was rolling past. I entertained him with a 4th gear pull. It was entertaining for me too. (It blew my Surius antenna off the A pillar though.)

I was coming back in the mountains at 2 in the morning last night. I had the road to myself and used them accordingly. I made awesome time getting back to NC.

After 1500 Miles in this car you would think I would want a break? Hell no, I want to go out and drive it some more.

I love this car..

It is amazing the mpg these cars get. My 911 got 27 mpg on my recent trip to Texas doing 75-85 with a "Texas Panhandle 140 mph gotta do it once" sprint.

The 944 pulls an impressive 24 mpg in the city.

Far cry from the 15 mpg my old Tundra used to get.

my best was 3500 miles in appr. 2.5 days. yes, I drove straight through

not sure about the fuel mileage on that trip, but the best I remember would have been around 30 with some not-too-short bursts up to triple digits around Buttonwillow

I've never gotten more than 20 mpg, and never gotten less than 18 mpg on a tankful.

Weird. The "beauty" of CIS, I guess.

I bet it does get great milage it has all the ingrediants. Low weight and small engine. I am sure mine weighs more and it also has over 270HP so for it to get in the 25MPG range cranking it at 80-100 MPH the whole way makes me happy.

I took some pictures along the way but seem to have misplaced my camera since getting back once I find it I'll post up some.
