Spam Filters, Again
 

In the past couple months, I've been getting a large volume of spam in my inbox, using Mozilla Thunderbird.

The spam is mostly the type that has an excerpt from some current news story in the subject line, then more excerpt in the body, preceded by a pitch for some penny stock or erectile dysfunction drug. The pitch is sometimes text, and sometimes an image.

I do have the Junk filter turned out and set to delete spam, and I have been religiously training it. Previously most of this spam was not getting through the filter, but now for some reason it is getting through.

Any suggestions? Is there a trick to make the Thunderbird Junk mail filter work better? Are there more effective filters, perhaps that work as a plug-in?

The "Mail" app on my Mac is effectively filtering out this stuff. It's just Thunderbird that is now falling down on the job.

Get a gmail account and forward to it. It's spam filtering is excellent.
