FWIW, the XBox 360 is worth the $
Holy crap.
I've played about 2 hrs of Prey, and have Call of Duty and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter waiting. The just-released demo for Halo 3 almost made me cry. Prey is fantastic. Very inventive, creative effects, very cool weapons, and interesting Native American angle/spin. That's all. Just thought I'd share. JP |
If I got that I'd be doomed. Must. Not. Buy.
|
think Gran Turismo 5 might be worth getting a Playstation 3.
Spent days playing that game. |
Cool. I've been thinking about getting a new game system of some kind since we have a nice 32" LCD TV now. I've missed playing the Zelda series ever since we boxed up our N64.
But honestly I just don't have the attention span anymore. :( That, and the wife and kid keep getting between me and the screen. ;) |
Wait until Forza Motorsport 2 then you will have lots of fun with the German cars. ;)
|
Call of Duty on XBox LIVE. DO NOT GET STARTED!
|
i haven't touched another racing game since i picked up TOCA3 for my ps2.........
haven't played with the 360 yet.... |
The 360 is hot but I am waiting to see what the PS3 is like. My xbox will do for now.
|
I got the 360 for my son (and me, but don't tell the wife). We cannot wait until Forza 2 comes out. They will also be releasing a wireless force feedback steering wheel with it. It should be sometime near the holidays.
As far as the Call to Duty 2 is concerned, the graphics are amazing. I challenge my 10 year old son on it all the time. With all of my time in the Marine Corps, police entry team, and tactics, my son smokes me every time. I cannot compete with the little guy. David |

I have over 4K hours in 30 plus types of aircraft, from helos to jets...my 11 year old son owns me like a roped dog on any flight sim game on the Xbox. Great fun, though.:) |
I buy consoles based on game releases. PS3 will find its way to me when GT5 comes out.
So will the 360 when Halo 3 comes out. I am still on the fence as to letting my 13 y/o play anything beyond Halo as far as FPS games. I have a problem with him plotting to kill other people. Somehow in my twisted mind I think its o.k. to kill aliens or monsters though. Maybe because its less real. We have a driving seat setup for GT4 and I am tryin gto cinvince the wife to let us get a didicated TV for the seat and set it up in the corner. |
I was playing Oblivion at a friend's; awesome graffics, much better detail than I've seen before.
Have you had any overheating problems? My buddy added an aftermarket fan after problems with it locking up. |

Play it, you will like it. Gamer Tag: Alfanator |
No overheating problems; but I bought the $20 vertical stand/fan. Keep the power supply and the unit as separate as possible as well.
Here's how I came to buy the 360 -- I'm walking through the local mega mart, and figured I'd check their extensive magazine selection for a title involving airguns, as I've wanted one for a while. Ambling down the aisle, my "Halo"-radar goes off and I notice the latest Xbox Gamer Magazine (or something like that) has Halo 3 splashed all over the cover -- WITH a DVD containing the Halo 3 trailer. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. mmmmmmmmm. Doesn't the DVD say "This disc will only play in an Xbox 360." Well, crap. I don't have an Xbox 360, but I really want to see the Halo 3 trailer. Processing....processing....processing. Solution ... go buy an Xbox 360. Before better sense could prevail, I was $700 lighter. I kept telling myself 2 things: 1. I'm going to buy the damned thing anyway, whatever it cost, when Halo 3 comes out. 2. If I stay home (rather than go out carousing) just seven nights b/c I have a 360 to play with, it will have more than paid for itself. Now, I need a new TV on which to use the 360 (and re-re-re-re watch the Halo 3 trailer). JP |

I haven't gotten into the Playstation or Xbox because if I did, I'd never spend time with my car. ;) Most Nintendo games are only like a low-level heroin addiction. |
PS3 will be much better than xbox 360....fwiw

One other thing about overheating.
When I was buying the 360, I asked about it, and the sales girl said she'd heard about a couple of them having overheating problems, but suspected it was b/c the units were too "confined" or used in a very warm environment. Or, maybe they were used for hours at a time. (her emphasis). My response -- who doesn't use a 360 for hours at a time? I mean, that's the whole freaking point. Who just "hops on" to a 360 for a few minutes' worth of Call of Duty? "Oh, I'll just sneak in five minutes of Halo 3 before I go to class..." Yeah. Suddenly it's the next day and you're dehydrated, post-overcaffeinated, bespectacled b/c your contacts dried out sometime around midnight and yet you waited until an absolutely necessary, put-off-til-the-last-possible-second bathroom run to remove them, you're almost through a whole carton of cigarettes, and surrounded by food detritus (including pizza boxes from all three times you've had it delivered in the last 24 hours) that's now filled with spilled soda and cigarette butts. And your legs are asleep, so you dare not stand up. One of the absolute coolest things about the 360... the ability to turn the console off (and on!) with the wireless controller. So now, I don't need to stand up and risk having one of my numb legs give out on me; I can just pass out in the recliner. Yeeaah. JP |
you crack me up jp :D
|
i've gotta get one of those... if you had to choose, should i go w/ call of duty or ghost recon?
