Summertimes here, give me a nice big Bombay Sapphire on the rocks!
Never had a taste for whiskey or scotch.

Vin -

I'm glad you brought up Sapphire (my favorite of the clear spirits ... mmmm Giiiiibbbbsooonnnnnns).

I was crossing into Canada 2 weeks ago and stopped by the duty-free for some booze. The clerk there told me that the Bombay distillery had "blown up" and Sapphire was therefore impossible to get for the foreseeable future.

I hadn't seen anything like this in the news... have you heard about it?

BLASPHEMER!!!!

Bushmills is made by the Bushmills Distillery, in Northern Ireland. Jameson is made in the Midleton Distillery in County Cork, Republic of Ireland.

Formerly, the French concern of Pernod-Richard owned both distilleries under the company name "Irish Distillers", but were forced to divest the Bushmills Distillery upon acquiring the Jameson brand. Currently, Diago owns the Bushmills Distillery and brand - along with Guiness, J&B, Johnny Walker, and others.

But again, for clarity, Jameson has never been made in the Bushmills Distillery.

Jameson is currently the fastest selling Irish whiskey in the US.

UP DOWN!

They couldn't be any further apart, then!
Bushmills is in the north east of N. Ireland, and Cork is in the south west of Southern Ireland.

Didn't the film "Titanic" make out that the ship was built in Cork?

Built of cork...

Another vote for Tullamore Dew, try the version that comes in a ceramic crock. That is some smooth whisky. Drink a few and dance with the little people.

"Whiskey", Scotch and Bourbon are all Whiskeys (or Whiskys).

If you know a Scotch fanatic who's taken distillery tours in Scotland, don't ask him about the making of Scotch unless you really, really like the sound of his voice.

JP

Yeah, I'd be one of those. I think I have 23 different malts at present. It was just a spelling question- Scotch is always "whisky", never "whiskey". Irish is always "whiskey". So what are bourbons?

Titanic was actually built in Belfast.
Another bit of useless trivia...

Stuart --
Spelling is mostly semantic.... whiskey is produced in Ireland and the United States (there are rules in each place as to what is required to earn the name).

Whisky is produced in Canada, Scotland and elsewhere.

Mnemonic -- Ireland and United States each have "e" in their name, and in their "whiskeys"; the others don't.

Bourbon is a whiskey made from a mash of at least 51% corn. Bourbon, technically, is produced only in certan regions in Kentucky (where the water is sweet, IMHO). Not unlike true Champagne being made only in certain region of France.

Glenn - gotta love the little ceramic jugs. Crap. If talking this much about food would make you hungry, I need a bev!

I figured you had to be up close to Belfast to make it to Bushmills in such short time.

I've been to the area a few times.

A little south of you, but recognize this place?
