G500 Amg

Drove one of these the other day and liked it quite a bit. Before I do serious injury to my wallet, anyone here owned one? Good or bad experiences to relate?

I knew I would get a comment to that effect! I promise I don't wear a gold chain or a grill...

Wile not a 'playa' but I confess a guilty pleasure in bling-y cars. Sort of an alter-ego thing

That said, I was not really a fan of the car unti I drove it. Sounds great, pulls like mad, and even handles well. I have a feelig that the car would be painful to maintain, though (financially speaking).

With those spinners that project images on the wheels and a 70 inch flat panel in the back, not to mention a concert-quality sound syste, I think that's an understatement.

What does it get, like 4 mpg? That being said I've always liked the G-class; I looked for one but quit looking well before it was officially imported to the US.

G500? This is the Galindewagen right? So they AMGified an off road 4x4 box? Sounds kind of stupid to me, though that is a great motor.

Don't.

Save some $$$ and get a Range Rover Sport. Infinitely better looking vehicle.

The rovers are nice. I may look at them as well. Drove a Cayenne Turbo today. Very fast, but feels a bit too refined for my taste -- a virtual reality experience. G55 was more hard-edged, brutal (and therefore more fun...).

They're ugly. I'd rather have a Cayenne Turbo S, which isn't that much better...

I should note that all the I don't really care for ANY of the vehicles we are discussing here. They are wrong on so many levels IMHO.

Get a large Mercedes or a Jaguar sedan.

EDIT: Better yet, get a Honda Accord, and quit wasting you money on bling bling.

Rover is nice? So the poor reliability claims are wrong?

For the record, the G500 is NOT an AMG model - the G55 is. There is a notable difference between AMG and non-AMG Benz's.

That said, the G500 is a formidable truck - it can climb mountains. (3 locking diffs will do that for ya).

And for Mercedes, it is a sure win. The design is nearly 30 years old, so very little development costs have been put into it in recent times. And it is expensive - so they are making lots of money off the thing. Figures Benz would bring a 30-year old truck into America and sell it for gobs of $$. As long as folks are willing to buy some beasts - there will always be a market for them!

-Z

PS: The GL500 (and forthcoming AMG versions of the same truck) looks to be a decent car - it's got the more curvy lines of the ML, but is sized a little smaller than the G. Should make an excellent tow vehicle... Hmm...

i.e. "suckers."

But whatever: I wouldn't sneeze at a Unimog or a Lamborghini SUV, so I guess I have a little bit of sucker in me as well.
