New Baja.

Picked this up during my short stay in California. It's a retired Baja 500 race car old school style. I just finished painting it John Deere Construction yellow. I wanted to call it something cool like "Killer Bee". My four year old took one look at it and named it "Sponge Bob"...

I've always been a Baj fan.

I had a '65 about 20 years ago with a 2110cc and Webers.

White five spokes. BIG tires and a chrome stinger. Hooray!!

Is it fast?
Does it handle?
How many gears does it have?
Does it have disc brakes?

I like it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked the above questions.

Yours looks more like "Killer V" than Sponge Bob, but Sponge Bob is cuter. I had one a lot like that a little over 20 yrs. ago, but red. They're fun.

Fast? No.
Handle? No.
Gears? 4.
Discs? No.

It has some kind of sand flyer swing axle. It’s geared like a tractor. Haven’t been off-road yet unless you count donuts in a cow pasture. The PO didn’t believe in maintenance. He just drove it till something broke. There are quite a few things ready to let go so I am seeing to all that stuff before I go out and ram trees.

thrown_hammer, you sold the other VW just before you moved, right?

Yellow is cool, painting the rims would finish it off. Would that be too prissy for a Baja?

Is that 4WD?

I didn't think there was much room in a Beetle for running those extra driveshafts...

I think they still have a class in the actual Baja races for the "Baja Bugs". Take it down and race it.

its called SCORE CLASS 5/1600 for stockers and CLASS 5 UNLIMITED. dont even think about racing it until you read SCORE RULEBOOK! class 5/1600 is one of the most competitive and largest entry aside from 1/2 1600 cars. extremely competitive and you can have your A$$ handed to you. go to ensenada this nov for baja 1000 tech before you bite one off. you will be very surprised at what class 5/1600's have done to them. a turn key mirage new 2/1600 2 means 2 seat 1 means 1 seat, will run you an easy 40-50k to be competitive. ask me how i know????

This was a class 5/1600 car from WAY back. Wouldn't even be in the running today.
