Apology for my comments on the 9/11 tape thread is in order

My comments got out of hand last night on the 9/11 phone message thread. The tragedies of 9/11 and Iraq/lebanon Afganistan, etc. are absolutely devastating for those affected, especially those who are just trying to work and live. I try to be civil on this board, and last night I crossed the line. As I've stated before, I won't type something here that I wouldn't say to someone's face and I broke that personal rule (actually, its more of a guideline:) ) Anyway, on-ramp, I apologies to you specifically, and Aurel, I'm sorry if I offended you as well.

cool_chick 07-29-2006 08:16 PM

I just saw that thread. I wish I could've posted in it. That was painful....

Hugh, you're a good man.

To that poor guy and his mates in that office, to those in pain and dying in different places in the world right now......

Thanks CC, to clarify, I'm apologizing for my language only. IF certain people whom I responded to truly believe "Who Cares" if 3,000 people of all religions and or lack of religion died while just trying to live and work on 9/11, then I have a problem with that. Especially if they are trying to insinuate that 9/11 was a big "so what" and that it was a non-issue because other people died in other conflicts (or worse, a tit-for-tat mentality); which is the impression that I got and that is what got me torqued.

cool_chick 07-29-2006 08:34 PM

I think some people get tired of people using 9/11 for their personal agenda as a means to condone killing of innocent people in other places.

I think they do care, they would have no conscience if they didn't, and I don't believe that to be the case. I just think they're becoming a little desensitized due to using that sad event to condone innocent deaths in other places....

Just my speculation, I dunno.....

Hugh

It depends on whose ox is the one getting gored. Some people only react to things that effect them personally, everything else is a video game.

fintstone 07-29-2006 08:57 PM

I think you were well justified.

So you do feel personal attacks are warranted for an opposing opinion....???

So is it that what you said before in that other thread is not accurate or something?

VINMAN 07-29-2006 09:20 PM

That was a totally heartless comment, not an "opposing opinion"

I don't see how you can possibly defend this. Posting "who cares? !" regarding the murder of thousands of innocent American citizens is so inflammatory that it is far beyond provocation. This is especially true knowing that friends and relatives of the regularly dead post here....and isn't it funny who ended up apologizing.

It was. But do heartless-based opinions warrant personal attacks?

That's the thing around here. No one can give an opposing opinion without someone else feeing it's "warranted" to give personal attacks (original poster excluded). Then come the flamefest. Then Todd comes.......

It may be a heartless opposing opinion to you, but it's an opposing opinion nonetheless, and when we arent' allowed to express those without being personally attacked...then what?

Getting back to the point of the thread....

Hugh, I tip my hat to you. Takes a real man (at least IMHO) to say "I did wrong" rather than casting blame elsewhere.

The point of the thread never strayed....

on-ramp 07-30-2006 06:53 AM

hey guys, just let the apology stand and let's move one.

why psychoanalize it to death? what Hugh did shows character and his gut reaction to some comments probably was at the "heat of the moment". I'm sometimes guilty of that myself.

we all say things we sometimes regret later. so to quote Paul McCartney. LET IT BE.

Tobra 07-30-2006 06:58 AM

That eye is a very pretty color

cool_chick 07-30-2006 06:59 AM

On-Ramp, I find this thread refreshing and timely, I think it's high time that people start acknowledging that personal attacks are not warranted, and according to Todd, will not be welcome anymore.

Because someone says something that offends you with relation to the topic doesn't mean it's open season to personally attack. They need to recognize it first before change can be had.....

I read other heartless-based opinions all the time here.......this is my opinion of course.....determining if it is heartless-based is also subjective......and emotional......

Hugh is a bigger man than I am (woman, that is), this is true. But his post should also be an eye-opener for all to realize personal attacks for opinions, whether heartless or not, is not a good thing for this board (per Todd).....

I find it distasteful. Because clearly the wrong one apologized. The actual miscreant has the nerve to unapologetically post here in the very thread where the better man apologized. It would seem that he would have at least had the decency to stay away from this one.

cool_chick 07-30-2006 09:41 AM

I find that other thread very distasteful too. Little babies that die in Lebanon are now not "innocent." I have to admit, it's highly offensive to me.

But what can I say....that's his opinion and he's entitled to it... Doesn't mean I have the right to call him names and doesn't mean we're entitled to an apology from him or you.....
