Are you knowledgeable about coffees and teas? Some advice, please.

Regular coffee gives me a stomach ache because of the acid content. Regular teas don't give me the caffeine boost I crave. I resorted to Red Bull for the rush but I know it is scary stuff so I'm looking for an alternative.

Do you know of low-acid but great tasting coffees? Which teas have the highest caffeine content, comparable to coffee?

Thanks.

The term "Acidity" in coffee is often misunderstood. Acidity refers to the bright and dry taste that adds flavor to coffee. Think of a crisp white wine in which your mouth slighty waters after you drink it - that's the acidity. Perceived acidity does not necessarily correlate to the pH of a coffee.

While I don't deny that Coffee might be hurting your stomach, I'm not confident that it is the acidity in coffee that is causing it. Sometimes it is the oils (dark roast) or sometimes the bitterness (cheap coffee) that people are sensitive to. Suggest you march into a Peets and find a good barrista and ask the question.

In regards to caffeine, I clipped this from the web:

Coffee has the most caffeine with 47-164 milligrams per 5 ounce serving. The caffeine content depends on how the coffee is brewed -- fresh drip has the highest level, instant has the lowest. Second place is a little more difficult to determine. A single serving of black tea (5 oz.) can have anywhere from 25 to 110 milligrams of caffeine, while a single serving of Coca-Cola (12 oz.) measures in with 46 milligrams. However, when you break it down to caffeine per ounce, tea handily beats Coke.

you might want to try the cold extraction process which makes the least acidic cup that i have had. look up toddy system on the 'net.

I'm glad you suggested Peets. The barristas at Starbucks don't know much. Oh yeah, I tried doubling up on tea bags per cup. There's definitely enough caffeine that way for me and no gut ache. Thanks for the advice.

I think Green tea is supposed to have more caffeine than black, but don't quote me on that.

Try Trader Joes. They have a "low acid" blend.

Green tea has the most antioxidents and a daily dose has proven beneficial, but black tea and coffee aren't too far behind.
I've heard that the colas have more acidity that stomach acid, and rob the bones of calcium to neutralize it.
Had a neighbor who went through a 2-3 pot/day withdrawls and had severe shakes, etc..

Peet's - yes

Starbucks - only if I need a T-Mobile hotspot

Sodas are pretty nasty to your body.

Only cheap Green tea (ie Gunpowder brand). The expensive stuff is pretty light on caffeine.
