The Slovakian (?) goalie is great!!
If she had any type of defense in front of her it would be another matter.
Don't forget they said Slovakia beat some team 82-0 to get into the Olympics

I heard one of the commentators say they asked Haley Wickenheiser at the Turin olympics about her reaction to accusations that the CDN women were just running up the score in a 16-0 victory. She said back in years past there were wins of 3x-0! Way to go ladies!

Remember that in Olympic Hockey the goal differrential for a team can come into play, so it is in a team's best interest to score as many times as possible. I watched some of the carnage -- and I will say that there were many times that an obvious shot on goal was not made in favour of a pass.

For perspective, I asked my wife (who coaches Canada's U18 Women's Rugby team internationally. Canada is not really known as arugby nation, and therefore plays some really strong teams at times. She says that the athletes she coaches love playing elite teams, even knowing the outcome is almost predetermined -- and that playing elite teams makes the athletes on the weaker team better overall.

Slovakia goaltender was actually fairly impressive, given the fact that she had absolutely NO defense in front of her. Do the Slovakian women have absolutely no coaching? Do they not watch any video of any sort in preparation? There were basic principles of matching up and defending the space in the slot that were ignored/forgotten by them.

What did you expect, a close game? Over time? Silver is what the other team's are playing for, the gold is for Canada, always has been, probably will be ours for a few more games that follow, I imagine it will be Canada vs the American ladies in the final and although you can never look past an opponent I expect Canada to win, the whole country expects Canada to win gold.
We also expect the Mens hockey team to win gold, we may be the favorite, we have the home team advantage but there are a lot of good teams out there, Russia, the Swede's and the American mens teams are going to be tough and the Finn's and Cech's are there to steal a game anytime. Going to be some great hockey

I played in a large international hockey tourney where goal diff was important, we beat up on a euro team really badly. Once you are up by a few, when you score, no smiles, no cheers just a quick nod and line up at center. The opposition knows you have no choice but you need to just do your job and not celebrate. Beers in the villiage afterwards go a long way....
