Big Papi
Every time he comes up representing the tying/winning run in the bottom of the 9th, I think to myself, "there's no way he can do it again, is there?!?"
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1154411002.jpg Is there any reasonable explaination for this? Remember, the stat nerds don't believe in "clutch hitting". |
It is just crazy how he can do that! I, too, keep thinking "he can't keep doing that, can he?".
He's fun to watch. I think I have the timing down pretty good so I can do the "spit, smack hands" at the same time he does it :D I don't really spit, though.;) Did you see the Cubs get beat up by the D-backs? 15-4 I think Prior went 5 innings. ouch! |
I know, I love watching the guy - clearly at the top of his game.
Of course this means he'll be traded to the Yankees in a year or two. |
Clearly a case of Papi Infallibility.

Actually the kicker is that the Yankees could have had him in the 2002-2003 offseason. The Twins had put Ortiz on waivers. They just didn't want him. Since the Red Sox "took a chance" on Ortiz in 2003, he has more RBI (and more game-winning hits, duh) than any other player in baseball. That includes A-Rod, Pujols, Manny, Guererro, and Bonds. BTW, Ortiz already has 37HR and 105 RBI... and it's only August 1st... MVP? |
I hate him, he is the devil.
|
Papi is the Babe's revenge for getting sold from his old team, the Red Sox.
I see some of the Babe every time Papi swings. He is amazing. |
And A-rod is the reigning MVP, being lustily booed in the Bronx. I love it!

Here's a staggering stat for ya'll:
In the past 4 years David Ortiz has come to the plate 15 times with an opportunity to end the game with a walk-off hit. Guess how many walk-off hits he has. Give up? 15. And that isn't counting the numerous game-winning and game-tying hits that WEREN'T walk-offs (top of the 9th in away ballparks, tying the game in the 8th or 9th, etc) |
