I've been having problems with my gmail account for the last two days... It keeps locking up, and LOSING messages... I have had to go to my backup account where I am forwarding all of my emails.

Anyone else having problems? Right now gmail is so unrealiable, I am considering giving up on it for good.

serge944 08-01-2006 12:01 PM

I've had no problems with my gmail. I have plenty of invites too, btw.

I've been using gmail almost since it's inception (I received a beta version invite from an original google employee) and have never had an issue whatsoever. I personally really like it, but to each his own....if anyone wants to check it out (the price is right :)) PM me (with an email addy to send the invite to) as others have done...

87coupe 08-02-2006 12:15 PM

Invites sent to NICKG and Icemaster.

RickM 08-02-2006 12:28 PM

Other than space what are the benefits?

I do notice alot of scammers use GMAIL...not that they don't use other services. The Gamil ones seem to stick out more.

nostatic 08-02-2006 12:31 PM

they read all your emails. automatically of course, but creepy nonetheless. I use it as a "throwaway" account.

87coupe 08-02-2006 12:53 PM

The Dragonware suite & its predecessors deployed by the FBI has been scanning all our email since the mid 90's anyway, not really concerned about Google scanning email for keywords to market with.

onlycafe 08-02-2006 05:44 PM

what is gmail?

kycarguy 935 08-02-2006 06:02 PM

I have been using gmail since nearly the beginning also and haven't had any problems. I think I have some invites available still too.

Its google's{@gmail.com} email system. Its still in Beta test I believe.

Gmail is a webmail / POP3 email account. 2.5GB+ storage, forwarding capabilities, etc etc. It has been invite only since it came out a couple years back. I understand it will become open to the public eventually (they've been saying that for a couple years now), but for now it's invite only.

I too have been using it for many moons now and have had almost no problems.

But don't take the 'invite only' to mean it's exclusive or anything like that. As you see by the number of folks offering 'invites' on this thread (most have a LOT to give away if anyone wants one...by design), that's just Google's way of spreading the beta version around. Personally, I just wanted another 'free' email account (not work related), and it works out great for me....

87coupe 08-03-2006 09:32 AM

To add to what Keith said, recently Gmail has allowed people who want an email account but have not been invited, to sign up via their mobile phone. The catch is you are giving them your mobile number - they currently state they will not do anything w/ your number, but I imagine they could change their policy and end up sending marketing messages via SMS to your phone.

Invite sent to North Coast Cab.

you would be amazed at the amount of data/information google has/collects. Or terrified. Depends on your outlook...

Paul_Heery 08-03-2006 12:22 PM

I have to agree with our static-free friend here. Despite their credo of "don't be evil", the potential for future abuse of your information by Google still exists. If there is anyone to fear regarding your privacy, it's Google. They collect and analyze data. That's their business.

I do not use Gmail and I do not send email to Gmail accounts. There is no protection afforded to the individuals on both sides of the conversation and any right-to-privacy argument goes out the window after 180 days anyway.

Now, where is my tin-foil hat?
