Evangelical Christians rally to support Israel

So now we've got a convention of Evangelical Christians in Washington lobbying for the support of Israel in this campaign.

Call me what you will (left wing, liberal, commie, pinko, socialist, anti-Semite) but I personally find it very chilling that this group, which the current administration panders to, is very excited that the current events could bring on their long awaited End of Days, Armageddon, and their well deserved place in Heaven.

The hope that this mess, coupled with tacit backing by the US, will turn into the ultimate worldwide conflagration gets even more frightening when it was reported (by ABC World News) that Senate Republican leadership was in attendance at this shindig today. No, I don't have support for this, just saw it in this evening's segment

I just have a very bad feeling that the Christian lobby, coupled with the Israel lobby, will result in the administration making some very bad decisions in this affair. The facts that we're thumbing our nose at world opinion, and pissing off what little moderate Arab support we may ever have had, will pretty much ensure that there won't be any peace in the Middle East anytime soon.

I been saying for yrs around here that the far right is more powerful than most know. They are more solid with a focused core. The far left has a new issue every 6mo or so and the far right doesn't. This allows them to have less tension and a less fragile belief system. It's really social policy and legislative control over policy that is their foundation in general among all sects. Like it or not historical US economic and war policy is somehow related to Christian morality.

fwiw.. 20% of new college students become more religious before they graduate. They are not becoming Buddist. It's more difficult for the far right to follow Dem policies than for them to follow Rep policies. They are loaded with cash and their opinion leaders have a direct connect to the voters thru preachers.. kinda like the American Revolution's policies of Thomas Paine were spread thru colonial preachers. You couldn't print that and not get arrested. That became the new belief system for the Revolution.

The US never much reacted to world opinion. The world reacts to US opinion whether it wants to or not. All since the War of 1812.
