My wife and I need alone time...

Hey now. I'm looking for a nice place to go with my wife for a 3-4 day getaway, no kids, anywhere in the US...outdoor stuff would be good. Where are your favorite getaways?
Thanks, Christian.

consider Kansas

Well, maybe Big Sur is a better choice. Very hard to get rooms this time of year though...I checked. Unless you want to spend $700/night. But its a *really* swank place...

Banff/Lake Louise, Maine coast, central California coast. 3 or 4 day cruise?

Fly to Portland, Oregon. Rent a car. Drive up to Timberline Lodge, on Mount Hood.

Gassy,

You are from Ill...it is summer, you are hot and humid.
Go to San Diego. There are abundant vistas, hotels and cool, dry air.
Trust me. I wouldn't live there again, but it is a great place to visit!
Beaches, mountains and desert all within a six pack of Bud drive.

I'll rent you my duplex for a romantic getaway. You can watch the 50 illegal Mexicans that live down the street come and go. I'll even cut you a deal, say 1/2 of Big Sur?

I've a place in the South of France you could use if your willing to go a little further. Or I know the best victorian B&B in CA. up by Eureka, I can tell you about.

Napa or Sonoma. Beautiful weather, elegant restaurants, wine tasting, music. Perfect.

Both beautiful at this time of year.

Probably the nicest part of the US imo.. especially if you've never received a good dose of the Rocky's.

Aspen has changed a lot since the early 1970s but it has all the nice doodads for the bride. Crested Butte is still funky but doesn't offer scenery as easily as Aspen and has a younger crowd. There may be a meteor shower coming up? A shower without moon light at 9k' beats a movie.

you can fly into Aspen with a small plane.

Gee, thanks RPK---my wife is drooling right now...would we fly in to Paris? Moses, I'll be in Napa Tues. thru Thurs. for the first time on business next week. I'm really looking forward to it--wish Jeanette could join me. I'll be at the Silverado Resort. I haven't even been there yet but from what I've heard, I'm already thinking it would be a good destination for the two of us.
Christian.

75-90mi south east of Portland is some funky hot springs. It's nice ambiance for the bride. The 1/2mi hike thru the woods to get there is another rare and beautiful stroll. Kinda like the finest of the NW that's accessible w/ rivers, streams, big green trees and nice rock formations. Right down the road from that area is one of those health nut feel good places for not a lot of money. Overnight is cheap and includes food, massages, earthy foods, and other feel good stuff. I don't believe either is marked on maps anymore.

When do you plan on taking this trip?

What is the budget?

gassy 08-05-2006 06:28 PM

Probably Sept or Oct--budget isn't an issue.
