PPOT Venom

I haven't been around PPOT that long. This may be a silly question, but in your opinion, are the 'hate' posters really that evil or are they just stirring the pot?

RallyJon 08-05-2006 10:24 AM

If something is evil, is it evil--or even hateful--to want to kill it?

fintstone 08-05-2006 10:25 AM

Evil

nostatic 08-05-2006 10:26 AM

I think it's a spectrum. Mostly internet phenomenon (everyone is 6'4" and good looking) and trolling, but I suspect a couple people really believe what they are saying. Hey, its a big world full of all sorts of people.

But wrt venom...doesn't this place seem a bit more calm over the last week?

KevinP73 08-05-2006 10:26 AM

I think the majority of the haters here are just spineless keyboard warriors. They really are harmless when you actually meet them in a parking lot somewhere.

pwd72s 08-05-2006 10:26 AM

Trolls looking for an arguement hardly deserve the same response as folks lobbing rockets into your home town. So no, don't kill the trolls...just ban 'em. Nostatic has the power...

LOL ;)

It is interesting to meet these people in person!

One man's troll is another man's freedom fighter. Most poster's definition of troll always seems to include those who post an opinion that is different than their. Heck, we have folks that post here in support of murderous terrorists that call others trolls.

Although Nostatic does indeed have the power...how does he determine what is an offense from what is simply a different opinion?

pwd72s 08-05-2006 10:44 AM

Blatant racism ought to do it....

Moneyguy1 08-05-2006 10:46 AM

And some get very testy when another poster calls them to task about their inconsistencies and baiting techniques.

Let's face it. It is a play in which there are three major roles: Instigator, Stooge and, for lack of a better word, Victim(s). Instigator posts something ourageous, designed to incite other posters. Victim responds, and is greeted with indignation by Instigator, who claims "labelling", "intolerance to other ideas", and exhibiting false indignation. Stooge jumps in with even more outlandish comments, defending Instigator. Instigator faintly praises Stooge, who laps up the praise and posts even further out. Victim(s) again respond(s), defending his or her POV and so it goes, deteriorating as it progresses. And all the time, Instigator is enjoying the mess he has created, taking a perverse pleasure out of chaos. In one scenario, Stooge gets booted while Instigator stays.. Note that in many instances, Instigator is guilty of what he accuses others of, exhibiting a convenient loss of memory. What Instigator hates most of all is ignoring or the occasional calling out. The responses in these latter cases is almost hilarious.

Just my take.

The celebration over getting Mul worked up enough to get him removed on a technical foul has just worn them out. They will be back (with equal venom) after someone else soon....Just as before Mul came along to play lightning rod.

Of course it is not called "venom" when applied against those with contrary views....it is viewed more like righteous indignation....and obviously was directed against a "troll" and was "well deserved."

Hypothesis proven...No additional comments required.

Howard Agency 08-05-2006 10:51 AM

I probably should have been more careful in wording my choices.
I'll try to go back and edit, but as examples, when Mul posts 'kill all the Muslims with thermonuclear weapons' or Pat says, 'kick the Jews out of Israel and give the land back to the Arabs', do you take them seriously?

I don't want to ban or nuke anybody, or secede, just looking for a punch line here. Is there one?

I guess if folks would stick to posting on topic instead of posting about other posters....the techniques you refer to would not be very effective. IMHO, that is the biggest problem on the BBS. Too many posts about the other poster they disagree with (even though they know little about them and have never met) and too few posts about the topic at hand.

Another poor attempt at appearing intellectual and attacking other posters instead of their argument. Certainly proof...but not of what you think.

I have no doubt that Pat is serious. Mul was just making an argument.

Moneyguy1 08-05-2006 10:59 AM

Hurts, don't it?

BTW..In an earlier post I explained that my old laptop (the big computer is busted) has a keyboard problem.. My bad

P.S. Did I attack someone? Did I mention names? I was "ordered" not to. <G>

Doesn't hurt a bit. Rather pitiful IMHO.

Sometimes the true "keyboard problem" is the operator. Yes, good job not actually using a name....although you were still able to make it personal. Apparently you have learned the technicalities better than Mul.

Howard Agency 08-05-2006 11:11 AM

Money, Fint, not to hijack your hijack of my thread, but you guys are a fun read. I can't remember either of you posting hate.

If Pat is serious, that's pretty scary (to me). I was hoping he was a gag writer for Hezbollah. ;)
