Most of the desktops at the office (MSFT) are Dell and 3 of the 4 at home are Dells as well. The 4th is a home built machine that looks like a Transformer for my 6 year old.

I went to the techbargains web site, looked through some of that, also they had a Best Buy link/specials. Also Best Buy listed a local weekly sale in my area. So I picked up an emachine.

Quite a difference from my old system. Now I can view my chess/games progams in 3D, has some decent pre-loaded software, is fast compared to my old system, and the best has thus far accepted my older software, including 95 Publisher etc., The operating system is XP.

A nice feature in that it has a McAfee that picked up an Adware/Syware attempt when I tried to install one of my older back-up drives. It called it a "PUP." Took care of the Spyware attempt, and the zip drive works excellent.

Has CD and DVD also. 30 day back guarantee, with 3yr. option, and has a Gateway warranty also (which I have yet to look over)

Asked all kinds of questions, and am happy so far.

Anything you get now will fly compared to your old machine. I built a shuttle and love it. They have the coolest designs.

On our second Dell with zero problems, good service and quick shipping. In-laws have them too with similar results. I have heard many horror stories about Gateway, might be good to avoid. I have an HP laptop, already been in for service once and the same problem is beginning to re-surface again. They were good about honoring the warranty, except all of the customer service is outsourced to India, which drives me nuts. It took half an hour overcoming the language barrier so that the tech support guy actually understood my problem (monitor flickers, then goes off). Won't buy from them again.

Everything working smooth and fast. All connected now, and browsing very fast compared to the old one. All peripherals also working well, and my old software. Very pleased.

Thanks everyone!
