40,000 US troops have deserted since 2000

Are the numbers declining as the Pentagon claims, or are they growing as others claim?

So, you're a supporter of military slavery, then?

Figures.

techweenie 08-06-2006 05:58 PM

Let's update that a bit...

Both accurate AND funny, I love it. Maybe we could squeeze in some more names; Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, John Bolton and many more.

You claim to be from a military family, did they all run and hide in the mountains like you? A real Libertarian wouldn't supports cowards like you and the liberals do, they stand up for what is right!!

Ain't PhotoShop great?

If you look at the link.

They have a pack of cards covering most of the administration's draft dodgers as well as conservative pundits who also failed to serve.

You really need to get your facts straight, ol' timer. Slavery is involuntary. Ours is an all volunteer force.

The wordings of the current oath of enlistment and oath for commissioned officers are as follows:

Enlisted:
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

Officers:
"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

Study up, ol' man! :p

Entry is voluntary, departure is at the discretion of the government; making it slavery. If it were truly all volunteer, a soldier could resign at any time for any reason.

All of which is fully disclosed and voluntarily agreed to by each individual prior to enlisting/commissioning. It's actually written in the contract.

Try again...

Here ya go, pat. I believe you may find page 2 quite interesting. The author doesn't go into minute detail, so you should have no trouble following along.

Don't thank me, I enjoy helping someone uninformed to learn new things. :D

If I understand this thread correctly, this guy is trying to argue that we don't have an all volunteer military? Give it a rest already. Geez, some people will argue just for the sake of arguing.

There will always be pretenders...looking for benefits, money or glory....who are just that....pretenders. They run like patsy's when it looks like there might be a bit of danger or hardship.

pmajka 08-07-2006 05:41 AM

The military is a neccessary evil. I could never sign my life away as an expendable asset. I do believe in the defense of My Country: the soil beneath my feet. I support those who have made their choice. I pray for their safe return.

Besides, i really cant hit the broad side of a bar with a 12gauge shotgun.

Pistols and Archery, i am effective.

Those kind of people are called trolls. You can usually spot them by the ridiculously inflammatory titles of their threads.

After a while everyone just laughs at them and they go somewhere else with their lies and hate.

The soil beneath my feet is dirt. I have never owned property and probably won't at this rate.

Ideals are worth fighting for, not dirt. The US is a collection of said ideals.

pmajka 08-07-2006 06:35 AM

if its ideals that are worth fighting for, then we need to invade china, North Korea and Cuba. And while we are at it, France.

they have different Ideals than us.

Here's an odd one for you... Is this a common thing in the military?

A buddy of mine (w/a young wife, two young kids) spent several years on the Navy. He then stayed on in the reserves and has (I think) 17 years total. He's about to get shipped off to a training camp that will essentially shift him out of the Navy and into the Army and he has been told to expect to see 'front line action' (whatever that means).

He was however, given the option to quit completely. I.E. he wouldn't have to go to Iraq, but he would lose out on his pension that he would have been eligable for in a few years.

Talk about a rock and a hard place.

kach22i 08-07-2006 06:46 AM

From the original article:

Quote:

“The vast majority of soldiers who desert do so for personal, family or financial problems, not for political or conscientious objector purposes,” said Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty, a spokesman for the Army.
Some people just want to raise a family with two parents, can't say I blame them much.

Why are we over there again?

Please no WTC pictures, I'm refering to Iraq.
