Hell, if I didn't want my driving ineptitude to be immediately apparent, I'd buy something like an AM and avoid competition-designed vehicles that'd demonstrate a driver's inabilities quickly and beyond a reasonable doubt. I've been in and driven some older AMs (DB4, DB5), and they're very nice. Kind of like a really well built TR2. But they didn't do it for me. Newer ones? Well, if I wanted a Ford, I'd buy the GT, I guess. With one exception, Triumphs (of which I've owned 3) had more soul/character/idiosyncracies than AMs, IMO. The AMs weren't as bland as MGs, though. I've got to give 'em that. That aforementioned exception: 1978 Vantage V8. My contemporary 930 will run the AM's wheels off, but I'd still own one. Right next to the A110 and the Lancia Stratos. Even the blind, bankrupt squirrel gets it right some of the time. JP |
