This was delivered to me today COD..I havn't seen it in 17 years, its bin tucked away in a friends garage. This is an ORGINAL motor with all matching numbers, STANDARD BORE. This motor hasn't been in a car in over 20 years.

SO WHAT DOES IT GO TOO???? Let the experts tell me, I'm stupid.

It looks like it would go into what is exactly to the right of the engine. Isn't that the hind quarters of a '73 or so Boss Mustang?

A better question is why do you keep a cover on your car when it's already in the garage?

Well KY hit what it was, but since the valve covers says COBRA on them....well only Lubby outshines your answer.

Its a Ford 427 Center Oiler that orginaly came outa a 63 Ford Galaxy. So Lubby U are only 10 years or so off. It did a short stint in a 65 Mustang, which was a 4 wheel Death Wish with that Motor in it, and then was last put in a 72 Mustang Mach 1, which was squirlily with it. Since then it has sat on an engine stand.

What gives it away are the Cross Bolted Mains, (the picture with the Bolts on the side of the Block), also the Dual Quad Holleys tells you its something special.

This is essentially the Motor that Carol Shelby put in his 427 Cobras and GT40s that took off Enzo at Lemans in 66 and 67.

The difference between those Motors and this one is the oiling system. This is a little earlier version..a Center Oiler, the later 65-67 Motors were Side Oilers.

The Center Oilers had a problem in sustaining 7000 RPM for long periods of time, they had a habit of spinning Crankshaft bearings. The Side oiling system cured that problem, and that was what enabled Ford to beat Ferrari.

This is the PERFECT MOTOR for anybody building a 427 Cobra or GT40. where in the world is anybody going to find one that is still a STANDARD Bore Motor and one that has all the components Heads, Block, Rods, Manifold, Carbs that is still together in the same motor that left the factory over 40 years ago. The Crank is a 67 427.

Well DEEDEE the cover is to keep the dust off the car. U got the body right for a 69/70 Boss cars (302,429 hemi). They made a 71 Boss 351 with the square body. But there never was a 72 or on Boss car.

However I don't own a Boss car but a 69 Mustang Mach1 with a 428SCJ Motor with Ram Air...an orginal R code car.(the R is in the vin, and denotes Ram Air 428CJ...Q would denote non Ram Air 428CJ). The difference between a 428 Super Cobra Jet and Cobra Jet was that the SCJ had Lemans Rods which were the same as the 427s and a different Crank Shaft that required an external Harmonic Balancer. Also SCJ cars had an external Oil Cooler setup...that was part of what was known as a Drag Pack Package...4 spd, 4:11 Differential ratios etc.

My car was a GROUND UP mechanical restoration. Which included. New Gas Tank, Rebuilt 3:55 9" Posi, Rebuilt C6 Auto Trans with Shift Kit and oversized oil pan, Rebuilt Balanced & Bluprinted 428SCJ. 4 Wheel Disc Brakes (complete Rebuild of the system), Global West Competition Suspension (Complete Rebuild of the system), Balanced & Blueprinted Power Steering Box, Recored 4 Row Radiator, Rebuilt AC, a 69 Shelby Gauge Package (8000 RPM Tach etc) etc

The 428 motor has a Milodon Banked Track Oversized Oil Pan, Hooker Headers with 3" pipes to the rear, Studed bottom end, 60lb Rod Bolts, Oversized Stainless Valves, Bronze guides, Ford Power Parts Roller Rockers, Ford Power Parts Hybrid Alumium Sidewinder/Police Inceptor Manifold, Hypo Oil and Fuel Pumps, and 60 HOURS of Polishing and Porting the Heads. Plus a bunch of other good stuff that I can't remember. Back in 1990 when I had it done the Motor cost me $8000 to rebuild.

All the work was done by Bill Thomas. Bill always went to Pomona and LB Swap Meets and was known by his rows of Ford Differentials that he had in Black Plastic Boxes. I could go into a long discussion about Bill and his abilities.

I have put less than 5000 miles on the car since it has been restored. The only thing that I havn't done is repaint the car...it is an Orginal Triple Black Mach1 btw...special order colour.

BTW. Note the Oiler Cooler for the Power Steering Unit. That comes from a 73 Ford Fairlane 500 and is probably worth about $300 today. Also my car is an orginal CA Black Plate car, that was bought in Covina, CA in March of 1969. It still has the orginal plate on it. I keep it registered and insured in CA.

My father in law had a 63 1/2 Galaxie with the solid lifter 427 and a 4 speed. He still wishes he hadn't sold it in 65. He said the sound of the solid lifters was unmistakable.

An old friend I haven't seen in years was the owner of a new 63 Ford Fairlane with the 427 power.
He was young and out joy riding with friends when he rolled it on the frontage road at Zuma beach.

I was wondering if this could be the motor from that car ? The car was pretty new as I recall when it went over.

I would think not to many Fairlanes were produced with that option. And you being from So Cal tabs, made me wonder ?

This motor came outa San Bernardino, CA. The guy who plucked it outa the Galaxie died of cancer at 35, and that was in the mid 80s.

My car is NOT a Shelby. I had a 1970 GT 350 at one time, I sold it to buy a 66 427/425 Corvette.

Back in the day I had another 69 428 Q code Body that was a real Roach that needed everything. I was gona make a sleeper with that motor outa it. But better sense prevailed and I sold it.

I might sell the motor if the money is right. I have no real plans for it, and thats why it has sat for 17 years in my friends garage.

BTW...The 428 SCJ & CJ were Hydralic Lifter Motors. With the Ford Power Parts Roller Rockers my Motor sounds like a sewing machine.

Unfortunately today there are so many new cars that can out run and out handle my car even with all the work I have done to it. Also when driving it, your aware that your driving a dated car. but what you have instead is a KOOOOL factor of driving something unique...a blast from the past.
