A couple years back, 2001, I tracked down a new one of those for a customer. A 1986 model (1000cc, last of the true Hailwood reps) that had, literally, never been out of the factory crate.

It's on display in his living room now overlooking Puget Sound. Kind of a shame it never got ridden, oh well.

How about a 748?

This one will be on my floor (it's coming back on trade) and for sale next week:

748?? Drooolll....

Man, don't do this to me...you trying to get me divorced or something?

Souk,

That Duc is gorgeous. I've always had a thing for those 900 Supersports from the 90's. One of the prettiest sportbikes of all time. It's so elementally simple. Take a look at it from straight behind, and you can actually see slivers of daylight peeking out between the fairing sides and the bike; just like the fairing's hung on like a little eggshell wind deflector around the hard bits of bike. I'm thinking of picking one up in a year or two.

If it's as clean, well-maintained, and original as the pictures make it seem (are the carbs OEM or bumped up to the FCRs?), I'd be willing to spend up to mebbe $4000-5000 for one. The newer fugly Supersports may be "better," but they do nothing for me. [checking down front of pants/] The difficult part is finding one of those older bikes for sale.

The SS though isn't really a sought after model other than the '98 FE.
That's what I thought, too, until I was informed that the '93 Superlights go for thousands of dollars more than even the Final Editions! Cheap ba$tard that I am, I'd rather have the sorted out FE (which seem to go for about $5000-6000). But I'm partial to that blood red paint of the run of the mill SP's.

I bought a "blood red SP" exactly for that reason. It's a pure fun bike.

Kie found the one I wanted, and took my ZRX1100 in as a trade too......what more could anyone want......

Mark you are too kind. Now only if I can round up those take-off parts we'll be into something. I think your trade-in set a new Red Label Moto record for shortest time on the showroom floor.

Souk's bike does look nice. A polite FYI might be that all '93 900SS models (with the exception of the Superlight) are one specification, either 1/2 or full fairing. The 'SP designation is used from '94 to '97. A '93 900SS would be essentially the same as a '94 to '97 'SP except no rattly rotors, carbon fiber bits, different master cylinders and a few other minor items.

I think Nostatic might be willing to see you a slightly used Duc real cheap. :D

HardDrive 08-20-2006 12:17 PM

I think Nostatic has put a damper on my bike buying enthusiasm. Its the random stuff that scares the heck outta me....
