Bumper Stickers

I have no doubt this will immediately degenerate into name calling and childishness, sorry in advance. I was curious, so shoot me.

That said

Why is it that Democrats leave bumper stickers on their cars so long? When Bush the Elder lost, I don't remember seeing anyone who had a Bush bumper sticker on their car long, or Dole for that matter. But there are a lot of Kerry-Edwards ones I see daily, and a few algore bumperstickers out there still too. I am not trying to be a smartass or anything, just wondering.

Jims5543 08-19-2006 05:20 PM

I see plenty of both. I am very anti bumper sticker on my cars. Well, my truck that I tow my track car with had a Mazdaspeed sticker on it. Then I threw on a Porsche sticker to balance it out.

The cool thing was the Porsche sticker would net me waves from P-car drivers on the road. :D

I would imagine the bumper stickers you speak of get you finger waves on the road.

edit - Besides my truck, that I traded in, nothing I drive has a bumper sticker. Now my FJ has none either and probably never will..... maybe a small Porsche one.......

Saw a good one today..

I never thought I'd miss Nixon

My neighbors growing up had a 1939 Pontiac with an original "I Like Ike" sticker in the back window. Very cool.

I've seen Bush/Cheney stickers on [b]brand new[/i] cars and trucks (mostly trucks) in the past few months. I never have my digicam handy when I run across one of the faithful.

keep count of how many are import cars to American cars with left winged bumper stickers.

oh and since we're ranting wtf's up with American flag stickers on friggen imports?

And yes, I'm aware that this is an "import worship site"

Why do you care? You are wasting perectly good brain cells worrying what someone you don't know is thinking. Does that work well for you?

Not trying to be a d*ck or anything. Just pointing out the futility of your curiosity.

Ed, you're right. But sheesh, the guy's stuck in traffic. You can understand that the mind wanders a bit...

I've also noticed this trend of leaving on Demo bumper stickers. Somehow, it's construed as rubbing it in if you leave a Bush/Cheney sticker on your car, or a big placard stuck onto your front lawn. But it's OK to sport a Kerry/Edwards logo. (Or the no-W ghostbusters-type sticker.) I particularly noticed this sentiment when I lived in Portland, OR last year.

What's wrong with showing patriotism even if you drive a non-American car? What if your non-American car was actually built in the U.S.? Is it OK for guys like David Murry or Randy Pobst to run little American flag stickers on their 911's?

rouxroux 08-20-2006 06:44 AM

OK, let's all just adopt the "Universal" bumper sticker. Everyone put a "Run Hillary Run" sticker on their cars....Democrats, apply to rear bumper...Republicans, apply to front bumper...

I've still got an old Wallace sticker (never used)...

Funny you should say that. We live in the same small town and I have not seen anything but Democrat themed bumper stickers in close to 2 years.

Why did you respond at all if it is such a futile excercise? I am not concerned about utilizing brain power.

I would hazard a guess that I am in the top 0.5 to 1% on the planet with respect to intelligence, have plenty of surplus capacity, thanks for your concern.

I have a few "Nixon Now" bumper stickers, maybe I will stick them on an old car, but it would probably get peeled off around here.

Noah930 08-20-2006 08:01 AM

You're lucky if they just get peeled off, and nothing worse. People in Portland with Bush/Cheney stickers on their cars had their cars vandalized in the days just after the last election. Wake up in the morning and find a rock heaved through a window, or paint dumped on their cars.

FrayAdjacent911 08-20-2006 11:53 AM

Yep, I'd heard where sad losers on the left vandalized cars obviously owned by the winning side. Sad. "tolerant" they are not.

I still see many Kerry stickers around here. I do think people should remove them. He freakin lost. Get over it.

The W with the slash through it, although I don't like it, makes more sense.

I'm not invested in either direction re: bumper sticker politics.
I don't do bumper stickers.
I definitely notice around Palo Alto (my neighbor calls it "Shallow Alto" :) ) a lot of Dem stickers still on bumpers.
I don't recall seeing any leftover Repub. stickers.

I saw one recently on some beautiful new Jaguar convertible: "Hey Bush. It's the economy, stupid!"

Kinda cool and retro for Alabama. Just make sure it goes on the tow vehicle because the required gun rack would look funny in the Porsche.

Don Plumley 08-20-2006 07:34 PM

I live in bumper sticker central. We got people here with n+1 bumper stickers on their brand new Prius: Save the ozone, who would Jesus bomb, hug a tree, kiss a beaver, etc. I will admit there is one that makes me laugh every time I see it: Visualize Whirled Peas.

Rob, I moved to Huntsville in '59...Lived there through '75. I had forgotten about the Wallace sticker until I opened up an old footlocker a few years back. I collected all kinds of stickers when I was a kid, and it was like a time capsule!

Oh yeah, the gun rack was standard issue in the F-150!;)

Saw this on a Porsche: "MY OTHER TOY HAS TITS"

Not sure whether that is left wing or right wing.
