It was a fairly painless experience. The take it easy for the first 48 hours is sound advise and makes it a non event

I had it done when our kids were teenagers and we knew that we were not going to have any more kids (I knew way before that point). My wife had an IUD that had to be removed so it wasn't hard to say I needed to get snipped.

I have to say that the the impossibility of a late in life surprise is worth it.

Dangerous talk. Look up the word "spontaneous reanastomosis".

Just messing with you. It's extremely rare. Sleep well.

Just do it. The pills you wife are taking after age 35 seem to start messing with her system. Not to mention smoking. Having her tubes tied is major surgery. Having a snip job is the best way to go. You have worried about it more than its worth. And yes, I have had it done. My deduct was going from 300.00 to 3000.00 per year and I had been thinking about it. Its about the best present you can give your wife. Good luck.

Had it done 11 years ago - I also got to watch.

Do yourself a favor and shave yourself the night before.

I was lucky (so I'm told) I was off the percocets the next day.

Took my own stitches out 3 days after (ITCH!!!)

Load up on pain medication the first day and stay flat on your back - don't move around unless you have to.

My father told me the night before to make sure they pull enough of the vas deferans out prior to cutting - his comment was "make sure they pull enough that you feel your toes curl."

As he is pulling them out, I start laughing - he asks why, I relate the above story and add the comment, "My toes just curled...

Physically, you will not notice any difference when it is all done.

I had mine done by a senior guy at a major east coast teaching hospital. He'd done a couple of thousand of them prior, so I was pretty confident.

He was running behind that day and somehow I never received any pre-procedure sedatives. I didn't know to ask. If that happens to you, ASK!

The first "crochet hook" caught me off guard and I briefly passed out. Seems docs really hate it when you lose consciousness on the table. :D I woke up in a second or two and the whole room was flipping out. Something about no blood pressure. Anyway, the second one was much easier since I had a sense of what was coming. When they say, "you'll feel a little pressure," you should get ready.

For a week or so afterwards, you must strap those boys down well. I was feeling pretty good and stopped wearing the jock strap after two days. Big mistake. You don't notice all the bouncing around the fellas do usually, but you sure will after The Big V.

Well, mine was done about 16 years ago, great result, horrible experience.

Doctor was in a rush, didn't wait for the local to take effect, felt every slice and tug. Then it got infected, had to sit with legs apart giving air to it with antibiotics to boot.

Then they thought it didn't take, had to clear the tubes for a number of weeks and samples....almost ready to do the second snip attempt when I got the "all clear".

It was a pain....but worth it...
