My 7 y/o son crashed his bicycle and hurt his arm.
Mom was away for the weekend so it was just me, and I merely gave him Tylenol, ice pack, and ice cream. When she returned, he went straight to the doctor who thinks he might have fractured his arm at the growth plate - but maybe not - waiting for radiologist opinion.
As you may imagine the wife is not so pleased right now. Especially when she learned he did it fine the first time, then daddy told him to start from higher up the hill and pedal harder. And that my daughter was betting $1 that he would wipe out.
P.S. You notice that BMX bikes nowadays seem to be meant for asphalt, not dirt? I think part of the problem was riding a dirt track on slicks. I'm having a hard time finding knobbies for 16" wheels.
(When I learned to ride a bike, I could steer the bike at speed but couldn't balance if I slowed the bike down. My dad took me to the top of a hill and gave me a running start down a winding asphalt path. My instructions were to ride the path until it ended, and then jump off the bike on the the grass. I am told that after a few spectacular bail-outs, I learned to slow, balance, and stop.)
