How much $$ do you figure to have the swap completed?

fastpat 08-23-2006 05:49 PM

I'm getting lightheaded just thinking about the "relationship" of those two.:D

Photo essay, perhaps?

nostatic 08-23-2006 05:50 PM

Sure you don't want to buy a stock motor for it and turn it into a spec racer? ;)

Icemaster 08-23-2006 05:50 PM

Toy? Or research for the next book?

Either way, I hate you.

Icemaster 08-23-2006 05:52 PM

Just kidding.

I was actually watching that engine. Congrats, looks like a nice combo.

gassy 08-23-2006 05:53 PM

Have fun man!

Rick V 08-23-2006 05:58 PM

OH YEAH!
Now it's time to buy all the chasis stiffening thingies you can find/make

deathpunk dan 08-23-2006 06:26 PM

That is a great deal on the 997 engine...considering the local dealer here sells remanufactured 996 3.4's for $6500...but those don't come with all the ancillaries..

The MAACO paint job doesn't look bad, either.

What a killer car this will be.

kaisen 08-23-2006 06:26 PM

That looks like fun when it's done, and a headache doing it.

Both were a great deal! Can you even buy a 80K mile 3.2L Carrera motor for that?

Porsche 08-23-2006 06:30 PM

azasadny 08-23-2006 06:39 PM

Wayne,
Just be sure to document the entire process for your next book. Good luck, you're going to have fun!!

legion 08-23-2006 06:40 PM

So...jealous...

Although the Boxster is listed as having a 4 cyl.

But where will you get all of the parts to get that to work, Wayne?

Dantilla 08-23-2006 06:43 PM

Wow. You did good. My wife wants a Boxster in that exact color. With that engine, you're in for lotsa fun.

syncroid 08-23-2006 06:53 PM

You're going to love it! That puppy is going to sing! I think the swap is fairly straight forward.

legion 08-23-2006 07:00 PM

I get it now...

Thanks Wayne--just in time for my birthday!

HardDrive 08-23-2006 07:13 PM

Write the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMFG, yer killin me.

Every since I got my Boxster I have had these evil urges. A little devil appears on my shoulder and whispers, "engine swap. your wife will never know....... "

:D

legion 08-23-2006 07:16 PM

And my little devil keeps saying "wife swap, your engine will never know......."

MBAtarga 08-23-2006 07:21 PM

Yes, please do - write the Rebuild Your 915 Transmission book!

Porsche-O-Phile 08-23-2006 07:45 PM

That is effin' A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

Now turbo it. :)

Even with 125K miles, that car is a good deal. Gonna' be a heck of a lot of fun.

Nice to see that the $$$ I spent recently are being put to good use - enjoy!

mikester 08-23-2006 07:56 PM

So, that's like for me right?

Porsche-O-Phile 08-23-2006 07:58 PM

The 3.6L engine will be a nice upgrade from the "4-cylinder" engine that's evidently in there now. . . ;)

Love ebay.

dd74 08-23-2006 09:41 PM

Eh...everyone has a 3.6. For $3K less, you could have had...

speeder 08-23-2006 11:22 PM

NIIIICE. Is it a plug and play deal, or complicated? I'm sure that you have researched this in advance, please tell.

You're gonna go through tires like a mother on that thing.

If so, please include a section as to what a buyer should be wary about when purchasing a 996.

Jims5543 08-24-2006 05:14 AM

The PO of my SC has a boxter with what I believe is that exact swap. I know when he pulled up with it it sounded very mean.

His screen name is Tholyoak he did the 3.6 swap in my SC too and the shop that did the PPI said it was the cleanest most professional swap they had ever seen. They said it looked OEM.

That should make for a fun car.

David 08-24-2006 08:28 AM

Holy crap, I've got to keep a better eye on Ebay. Especially since that prize was right here in Houston. Let me know if you need any help from the Houston end.

I've been thinking a Boxster would be a good relatively affordable daily driver.

arcsine 08-24-2006 10:38 AM

Just to make you guys feel better about this, Wayne gets to buy this cool stuff, put it together, play with it, drive it and then write all the expenses off. We are all in the wrong businesses.

Ah yes, "101 Projects For Your Bastardized Boxster." Or should it be "101 Projects To Bastardize Your Boxster." :D

Sounds like a fun projet!

I second that!! Write the 915 overhaul book, complete with a section called "How to make all your own 915 specialty tools at home."

please?

Plenty of time for KevinP73 to give it a worthy paint job, doncha think?

Might look good in Viper Green or Signal Orange...

edgemar 08-25-2006 12:22 PM

Wayne-

How do you know that car hasn't been wrecked? Did you have it looked at or are you just trusting the seller?

Any suspension or brake upgrades planned?

OMG Wayne when I saw your post in the classifieds I thought of that exact car to send to you, but when I went back to find the right link, it was sold! Guess now I know who bought it!!!

Can't wait to see the finished piece. ..and put me down for one of those books.

Doug&Julie 08-28-2006 04:48 AM

Hey, can you start a "project Killer Boxster thread" on the Boxster board? Might be fun to follow along as the car makes progress.

Z-man 08-28-2006 09:58 AM

Wayne, when the project is completed - we'd love to have you speak at our monthly PCA meeting - yeah - in New Joisey.

You are planning a national tour of the car, aren't you?!?

-Z-man.

sammyg2 08-28-2006 11:12 AM

Throw in a little conan o'brian ;)
j/k

jorian 08-28-2006 02:56 PM

No worries, Wayne - just bring the car - it will 'speak for itself' :D

It's not fair for all the West Coasters to have all the fun!!

jkarolyi 09-28-2006 07:05 PM

How did this deal turn out for you, Wayne? Was the Boxster straight and the 997 engine tip top? Please keep us updated on this project...

You mean Ross Perot without the money right?

jkarolyi 09-30-2006 09:20 PM

Thanks Wayne...looking forward to hearing about the progress on this project. First dibs on buying it when you're done! :)
