"In a few other studies, which have focused on employment (as opposed to working hours) have concluded that working outside the home actually increases marital stability, at least when the marriage is a happy one. But even in these studies, wives' employment does correlate positively to divorce rates, when the marriage is of "low marital quality." Well, my wife's employment does not positively correlate positively to...wait, was that a double positive?

Lack of economic alternatives keeps many women at home, no doubt.

By the way, women initiate divorce TWICE as often as men. (Are we that hard to put up with?)

Interesting.
Many women who work at my company have children, and never come back from maternity leave. These are intelligent, educated women, who choose to leave the business world to raise children full time. I think many of them make decisions that they fill will lead to a more fulfilling life.

More men talking about what women think/want. Interesting...
I'll take a woman with intelligence and drive any day of the week. And in fact have. Hasn't quite worked out according to what *most* people think is "good" but then again I'm not most people... |

) We have two wonderful children, a happy marrage (narry a cross word in 13 years next month!). I agree, the extra income is nice. But at the end of the day, the quality of the marrage depends on the participants, and what they chose to put into it (as opposed to take out of it). If they chose each day to put more in then they take out, it will be a good marrage. If they chose to take out more then they put in, it will fail. It's not rocket science you know!

Every post above is anectotal, a limited (one situation) view.
Sociology studies have shown that men are, in the main, more committed to relationships and women are more calculating. Further, the more "Career minded" the individual. both male and female, the more difficult it is for them to establish deep, long term, meaningful relationships. In effect, the career gets in the way. Not being judgemental; different strokes for different folks. Lots of studies on the subject. Do a Google.
