Don't marry carreer women!!!!

Link to Forbes article

Quote:
Guys: A word of advice. Marry pretty women or ugly ones. Short ones or tall ones. Blondes or brunettes. Just, whatever you do, don't marry a woman with a career.

Why? Because if many social scientists are to be believed, you run a higher risk of having a rocky marriage. While everyone knows that marriage can be stressful, recent studies have found professional women are more likely to get divorced, more likely to cheat, less likely to have children, and, if they do have kids, they are more likely to be unhappy about it. A recent study in Social Forces, a research journal, found that women--even those with a "feminist" outlook--are happier when their husband is the primary breadwinner.

And some, uh, haze:

"In a few other studies, which have focused on employment (as opposed to working hours) have concluded that working outside the home actually increases marital stability, at least when the marriage is a happy one. But even in these studies, wives' employment does correlate positively to divorce rates, when the marriage is of "low marital quality."

Well, my wife's employment does not positively correlate positively to...wait, was that a double positive?

Lack of economic alternatives keeps many women at home, no doubt.

By the way, women initiate divorce TWICE as often as men. (Are we that hard to put up with?)

Interesting.

Many women who work at my company have children, and never come back from maternity leave. These are intelligent, educated women, who choose to leave the business world to raise children full time. I think many of them make decisions that they fill will lead to a more fulfilling life.

And others don't...and feel the same way.

More men talking about what women think/want. Interesting...

I'll take a woman with intelligence and drive any day of the week. And in fact have. Hasn't quite worked out according to what *most* people think is "good" but then again I'm not most people...

Well, that and the want for a bigger house and shinier stuff to buy and put in oversize closets.

If you stand back and look at it, were not talking about what women want - more like observations. The Auther of the article is not speaking to or for women.

I'm not sure that your experience (or mine, for that matter) proves him wrong.

Hogwash. My wife's a software engineer and makes more then I do. (I resemble that "kept man" comment myself! ) We have two wonderful children, a happy marrage (narry a cross word in 13 years next month!). I agree, the extra income is nice. But at the end of the day, the quality of the marrage depends on the participants, and what they chose to put into it (as opposed to take out of it). If they chose each day to put more in then they take out, it will be a good marrage. If they chose to take out more then they put in, it will fail.

It's not rocket science you know!

Every post above is anectotal, a limited (one situation) view.

Sociology studies have shown that men are, in the main, more committed to relationships and women are more calculating. Further, the more "Career minded" the individual. both male and female, the more difficult it is for them to establish deep, long term, meaningful relationships. In effect, the career gets in the way.

Not being judgemental; different strokes for different folks.

Lots of studies on the subject. Do a Google.
