Wink Not everyone views the Civil War like FastPat

Was up in northern New England this weekend and spotted this monument while out strolling and smoking a cigar.

Notice the caption on the bottom ... it's all about perspective, isn't it?

The only problem with that inscription is that it's a lie. There was no rebellion* in 1860, since no Confederate State attempted to overthrown the government in Washington, D. C..

Thanks for bringing this subject up, Rodeo. Dr. Thomas DiLorenzo's new book Lincoln Unmasked has now shipped and is in the hands of Americans. I'm almost one half through it, and must say it's better than his first book on Lincoln and the War on Southern Freedom, The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War.

In Lincoln Unmasked, DiLorenzo documents more about Lincoln's connection with Northeastern corporations and the push for corporate welfare that was the specialty of the Whigs, and by direct inheritance, the Republican Party, giving us what we have today in the White House.

Great reads, both of them.

Oh, and one more thing, since you brought this up, please state where in the Constitution it's forbidden for a state to withdraw from the compact of states.

*In point of fact, the rebellion in occured in 1861 when Lincoln rebelled against Constitutional government and ordered the US Army to invade the Confederacy.

Say the word, both of you, and I'll bring you copies of DiLorenzo's books. By the way, he's a Pennsylvania native, and just in case you're curious, Lew Rockwell is a Connecticutt native.

Both are honest seekers of the truth.

Didn't anyone tell you Pat?

The winners write the history!

Ok, not trying to start a fight ... for me the Civil War is not quite ancient history, but close. I only think about it when I happen upon old monuments while out walking, not every waking moment of every day

That's really too bad since what the federal government is doing everyday is a direct result of the coup d'etat accomplished by Lincoln. If you want a deeper understanding of what's going on, and don't forget that the Bush'ist honor Lincoln at every turn and use precedents set by Lincoln to imprison people without charges or trial, you'd think and read about it more, a lot more.

The people imprisoned in G'itmo are held there under a Lincoln precedent.

I'm not smart enough to figure out what America would look like if the secessionists had been successful ... and while that issue may have some academic interest, it really has no bearing on anything that is going on today.

If you know nothing about George Bush, you still know that he is not guided by historical precedent. I don't think he could pass a 9th grade history exam, so I'm pretty sure he's not modeling his policies on footprints left by Lincoln.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm still pretty bent of shape about the Thirty Years War. Sure, the Treaties of Münster and Osnabrück turned out pretty well, but those damn Habsburgs really get on my nerves.

I would say they turned out better than "pretty well." Great television is a rare and wonderful thing, my friend!

Yes, actually, it does just as I've stated. I've provided you with the references to the supporting documents. You may choose to verify or not, your choice.

Since you've stated you know nothing of the history I've mentioned, you have no idea whether George W. Bush is following Lincoln's precedents, or not following them, or has never heard of them.

I've stated that Bush is using them, and in fact some of the recent court outcomes, based on cases involving Lincoln's activities, have been used to thwart a small portion of what Bush is attempting.

You must know history to know the present, and to have the slightest ability to project the future.

Yes, the cause in support of freedom, instead of the dictatorship of merchantilism that we had forced upon us.

The yankee states supported slavery more vigorously than any other area of the country during it's years existing. Suggest you read the history of it in Complicity: How the North Promoted, Prolonged, and Profited from Slavery. Written by authors that write for the Hartford Courant, that's in Connecticutt by the way.

People who try to beat the Confederacy over the head about slavery almost always know very little about it and their own history.

There are only one of three reasons (or a combo) why conflicts happen:
1) Money
2) Ego
3) Genetics

The War of Northern Aggression occured due to money and ego.
