Anyone have Verizon FiOS services?
Welll I broke down and finally picked up a 50" Plasma. So, now I need the HD equipment to feed this thing and up until last week my bestpackage option was Cablevision.
So I call the bastards to expand my service from Optimum Online internet service and regular ole "family" cable service (No boxes) to include VOIP as well. The TV ads boast all three services for $95 a month....Hmm, not too bad. So I call and of course I''m not eligible cause I'm an existing customer. Add $30 right off the bat, then $40 to keep my existing phone number, $20 to have a tech come out and install (required), $5.95 a month for an HD cable box (one per TV for Digital IO service x 5) or $10 per for an HD cable box/DVR . Phew. I asked if I could buy the boxes and get a discount...long story short, No. The one good thing is that it's a month to month agreement and thye're coming on Friday to install. Now I just learned that all the work Verizon has been doing in the area was wiring the area with Fiber for their FiOS service. They just announced all three services for $95. I would still have to "rent" the set top boxes but I was curious if anyone here has this service and what they think of it. I'll research more but reliabily, speed and quality are what I'd like to know more about. Anyone?

I have FIOS internet and phone service and am happy so far. In my area, they are rolling out TV slowly, just a couple of townships so far - I think they have to get approval from certain local govts on a case by case basis in order to compete with the cable monopolies. I don't know really, but we can't get FIOS tv right now - besides, I can't give up the NFL ticket on DirectTV!

I've got all three FIOS services (TV, Phone, Internet) here on Long Island, NY. So far, so good. They even upgraded my Internet service from 5Mb to 10Mb at no extra charge. From what the tech said Verizon is upping the speeds across the board (5->10 and 15->20). If you have the slower speed just call the service center and they upgrade through the lines, no tech call. They are supposedly going to increase those speeds by early next year, doubling the available speeds.
I don't have HD or theDVR, just the regular set top boxes. Everything has been great.

The On Demand movies and shows are impressive. A list of a hundred or so movies that you can call up whenever you want and can pause and restart, stop and begin again or re-view for 24 hours. I had DirecTV before this (not a penny to Cablevision!), so this is a big improvement. Vin
