If they were Bush appointed, I'd denounce them in a heartbeat.:D

Rodeo has an excellent point, you guys are the anarchist now!;)

Nathans_Dad 09-06-2006 09:43 AM

Of course the counterpoint is that Rodeo also blindly supports the British justice system in this instance without (by his own admission) taking the time to do any research himself. How is that different from denouncing the system without research?

At least I googled it and got SOME info...

How ironic that Rodeo condemns those who read about a man being jailed for shooting a burglar in his own home (and then denied parole because he posed a "threat to burglars") and think "Man that is screwed up", yet he reads the same article and thinks "Ah, the justice system obviously worked here, no need to look further."

Rodeo 09-06-2006 09:57 AM

Here's your opposing view ... took all of 10 seconds to find it ... Will you all change you minds now? After all, it's now on the internet, it must be true. :)

Mr Martin has promised that now he is free he will campaign for just such a view. He really seems to feel that procuring an unlicensed shotgun, firing it into an unknown person's back as he fled and then leaving the body lying for 15 hours in his yard before it was discovered is something that he should be within his rights to do.

I can't believe what this world is coming to!!!! You can't even fire an illegal weapon into a fleeing person's back and then leave him dead on your lawn for 15 hours without going to jail!!

Liberals suck!!!!

Waaaaaa!!!

Rodeo 09-06-2006 10:18 AM

Apparently, things aren’t all bad these days for Mr. Martin, he got himself a groupie:

FindArticles > Sunday Mirror > Sep 26, 2004 > Article >
WIDOW: MY LOVE FOR TONY MARTIN
GEORGINA HORTON

TONY Martin, the farmer convicted of killing a teenage burglar, is being stalked... by a lovesick widow.

Every week Sandra Penistan, 56, makes a pilgrimage to his Bleak House home in Norfolk.

But Martin has rejected her advances and refuses to acknowledge her or even open the love letters she leaves him.

"I know I'm seen as a nutter," said Sandra. "The trouble is people don't know me or Tony. I'm the only one who understands him.

"Even friends are asking me, 'Why are you bothering with Tony Martin when you're not getting anything back?'

"I tell them that I'm a good friend of his and won't abandon him. I know how I feel and won't be budged."

Sandra said she'd long been an admirer of Martin's but fell in love with him when she asked to meet him during his trial at Norwich in April 2000.

Martin was convicted of murder and jailed for life after shooting 16-year-old burglar Fred Barras in the back as he ran away. His conviction was reduced to manslaughter on appeal, and he was released in July last year having served three years. Now Sandra regularly sits outside his dilapidated farmhouse waiting for him to turn up.

Despite his total rejection of her Sandra, whose husband died eight years ago, has refused to give up. "I would do anything for him," she said.

"I would have even gone to jail for him if they had let me serve his sentence." Each week Sandra - who has her own home in Skegness, Lincs - drives 60 miles to Bleak House. She picks up love letters that have remained unopened on his doorstep and replaces them with new ones.

He hasn't responded to any of the letters, and if he drives up to the house and sees her there he backs his car up and drives away.

Mother-of-one Sandra said: "I lost count of the times he phoned me from the safe house he was kept in before his trial."

She said that after he was jailed Martin asked her to stop sending letters - but when he was released he sent her a card thanking her for her support.

She claims he wrote: "For the friendship you give and the love that you show, I just want to let you know I'll never let go. As for the future we'll just have to see, we may become closer when I'm free."

Sandra said: "I took the message to mean we did have something special. The fact is, I'm not some silly young woman looking for signs that I was back in his favour.

"But his message gave me new hope. I've devoted four years of my life to him so far, and have no intention of giving up now."

You can, you just have to make sure the person is a cop--or at the very least a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record.

I know, legion, I know!!! The only people we can shoot nowadays are cops and upstanding citizens!!! Otherwise they send us to jail :( Waaaaaaa!!!!

Liberals are bad!!! I hate liberals!!!

(sniff, sniff ...)

Rodeo 09-06-2006 10:33 AM

Why can't they let us shoot fleeing 16 year olds in the back and and then leave them to die on our front lawns?

Why can't the dirty libs let us do that? Why???

They're ruining our country, those libs!!! They're even ruining England!!!

Waaaaa!

BlueSkyJaunte 09-06-2006 10:36 AM

Jesus H. Christ, STFU already.

Rodeo 09-06-2006 10:39 AM

Sorry, I get all choked up when the libs try to take away my rights! I'm a conservative, damm it! Waaaaaa!

Jeff Higgins 09-06-2006 10:43 AM

Clearly, the salient point of all of this that is so painfully obvious to most of us is lost on a few. The point is not whether Martin was lawfully convicted, the point is whether the law still serves the British people. It does not. And they are relatively less empowered to change it than we are here.

I am amused by some folks sense of fair play and chivalry. Why, to shoot some one in the back is the epitomy of foul play; it's "just not cricket". Bull*****. The man had invaded a home. He brought the fight to the home owner. When the burglar is trumped by the home owner's defense against his invasion, he doesn't get to just turn his back and be "safe". This is not some children's game. He does not get to decide he does not want to play anymore. Almost certainly, he will simply seek out a less well-prepared home owner or come back later to seek his revenge. Granted, that may be a brash assumption on the home owner's part, but he would not have to make such assumptions if the sonofa***** had not broken in in the first place.

I really hope none of us are ever put in that position. I guess it is easy for the holier-than-thou pompous asses out there to whine about the criminal as a "victim". To second-guess the home owner's use of force as "excessive". I just wonder what these morons would believe to be "excessive" on the day they find themselves threatened. They are usually the ones to whine the loudest that some one else should have protected them in the first place and, failing that, they had no choice but to use "excessive" force.

I am afraid you are your own worst enemy.

Rodeo 09-06-2006 10:52 AM

Now you all know what you sound like ... and how ineffective and pathetic your constant crying about the libs sounds.

You can shoot and leave them to die.

This has been witnessed and disclosed in the press within this country.

I should note that you must be a mercenary in the employ of Blackwater during a period of lawlessness following hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Jeff,

Your paragraph clearly shows how difficult it can be to follow Christ's teachings in our daily lives.

I'm afraid that when a burglar or anyone else turns his back on you and begins fleeing across your front yard to escape, your right to use deadly force against him ceases.

We live in a nation of laws. Not one man judge/jury/executioners. Deal with it.

A case I was told about involved shooting someone in a window as they were trying to escape. The home owner's lawyer said it was not his client fault the burglar was slow. Laughter erupted in the court room. There was no homeowner conviction that day.

stevepaa 09-06-2006 11:24 AM

Did you hear the one about the sleep walker shot dead in another man's house because he thought the sleepwalker was a burglar?

cmccuist 09-06-2006 11:28 AM

Why was the POS fleeing? I suspect that the first POS got shot and the other Gypsy didn't want to die, so he ran. The BS about Tony Martin firing in the dark was just a defense lawyer grasping.

I think Tony knew what he was up against. He knew that the British justice system is slanted toward the criminal (in the US also). I can't figure out the 15 hour wait though.

And Rodeo, your point about not just taking an article on the face of it is well put. You should use that skepticism when it comes to just about everything written about conservatives in general and W in particular.

We should all take a minute and think things through before believing what some hack in the fish wrap hammers out. In this case, I think Tony was screwed royally. Three years in the hole for killling a burglar?!? He should have gotten a medal!

And thank you for showing how clearly Christ's teaching are not used to support this travesty, but only the old testament laws which were promulgated only because of the hardness of their hearts.
