Pete Brock killed
|
Sad news.
|
The guy was a living legend. Huge contributor to the world of motorsports and design. AFAIK, Pete designed that Cobra Daytona.
The notion that rally organizers could do no better than 4 hours to extract him from his car is apalling. I guess we'll be going through a round of 'he died doing what he loved.' |
Very sad indeed.
"Brock, 61, who had three children, was driving with colleague Mick Hone in a Daytona Coupe when the incident occurred." Forgive the cliche, but at least the man died doing something he loved. RIP http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157728844.gif |
61 years old, pretty young to die by today's standards.

Here's a picture of him measuring up Ken Miles for the Daytona: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157729541.jpg |
Another legend passes... Sorry to see it but at least he was doing something that he enjoyed.

http://www.datsun.org/fairlady/BRE.htm Probably just a very weird coincidence that Pete Brock died in a car designed by Peter Brock. |
So much for my reading comprehension skills...
|
He was driving an antique Shelby Daytona coupe in the race? Aren't there only a few in existence?
|
Sorry guys,
But you are way off here. Peter Brock died in a Daytona Coupe (replica of Shelby Daytona built by Dick Bendle of Motec fame). See my thread in OT "Another Aussie Icon Gone" and thread in Aussie/NZ Pelican about our "King of the Mountain". Lisa |
Here's a brief history for you:
http://peterbrock.com.au/home/profile.html Peter's death is huge news in Oz. He was a legend in racing circles and beyond. He was truly a great man and we probably won't see another like him :( . Lisa |
Thanks for the clarification. I sort of assumed that it was a replica or re-creation of some type, but I am really not familiar with them.
I am sorry to hear about his passing, and as to the "died while doing what he loved", I would simply say that if one spends their life driving cars as fast as the laws of physics allows, there is a very real chance of dying while doing it. I'm sure that he understood this. Sad, still. |
Denis,
For us down here it was like when Senna died...just seemed unbelievable that masters like these could succumb to death doing something they were uncanningly good at. Peter Brock was damned good - the best. He hardly ever came to grief. But history has shown us that the masters are the ones who go this way :( . He was a man who detested the idea of growing old - now he doesn't have to... |
Racing involves risk. When asked why/when he quit, Sam Posey said it was after Mark Donahue died. Sam's reasoning was that if somebody with a talent as great as Donahue's could still lose on the track, he knew he had no business being there...

Dead is Dead no matter what your doing at the time!
|
Brock and Phil Remington are the real material from which legends are born.
Pete will be missed, as will Phil when he's no longer with us. |

Pete Brock is probably telling many people today that "reports of my death have been exaggerated". |
That Daytona Coupe was featured in a recent Australian Racer magazine I recall...I'll have to dig it up from the piles downstairs. I recall a comment that the suspension wasn't 100% sorted at the time and the owner was working on that next. That was several months ago though. I don't recall the owner being Brock at the time, I would have remembered that for sure.
Sad day to lose that gentleman. |
