anybody knows anything about glasses??

so i'm shortsighted, always have been , but never got glasses because it didn't bother me.

lately , i felt my eyes were tired when working ( computer all day)
so figured i'de get me some glasses

-1.25 left , -1.0 right eye

so far so good, get my spanking brand new glasses, with Titanium frame and all that, anti glare, full options on the lenzes

been 6 days now
yeah , i can see more clearly
but my eyes feel more tired then before
plus it just doesn't feel right... it's like watching a TV with the contrast setting at MAX, to bright , to reflective
and the image itself just feels warped at times
at first i felt it was getting used to , but it doesn't seem to improve ... now it feels like a relief if i take em off...

any ideas what this could be??

Its weird when you first get glasses. I was 19 when I got them. The distortion is probably normal. The lenses are curved, and will seem to bend things sometimes. Eventually, my brain seemed to process this out. If you make another week without comfort, go to the doctor and have your eyes reexamined. Perhaps the Rx is off a few points.

After 8 years of glasses, I got contacts, and wow. The vision with them is MUCH better, and they even have them for astigmatism now too. They are a pain to put in and clean, but for the 10 minutes of maintenance, you get a day of Grade A vision.

It could be that your perscription is incorrect, but it could also be that you're just that sensitive to the material of the lenses. Evidently the thin frames aren't as clear. I recently got a new set of lenses and went through 3 types before I had to go back to my old thick plastic lenses before I was comfortable. I spoke with my optomatrist about it and she said somepeople are just that sensitive to the clarity of the different materials. YMMV, just been using glasses for 15 years and use them in front of the computer for 10 hours a day or more.

I remember when I first got glasses at 10. I had about a week of spatial problems. It was like everything was much larger and curved than it actually was. My eyes eventually adjusted.

I still like my scotch response.
You're field of view has been reduced considerably. You will find that you now have to physically move your head, where before you only had to move your eyes.
You will adjust to it...

Only thing I know about glasses is my own experience. About the same corrections as you have. Took me more than a week to adjust. Dizzy, nauseous, blurred vision. Gradually my system got used to them and now I can actually see something.

I have almost the same prescription as you do, and I've found it more comfortable to not wear my glasses when working on the computer. I too have the 'too bright' sensation sometime, but I've just got used to it.

Sooo, to young to need bifocals, that's good. Go back to the optician and make sure the optical centers are in the correct place and the frames are adjusted correctly. They should adjust them for no charge. If you continue to have trouble, it is probably the base curve or plastic that the lenses are made. Polycarbonate is espcially problematic. Most opticians will remake a lens in a different plastic/base curve within a one month period.

I usually ask patients to try the lenses for 7 days, if they are having trouble beyond that, a change is usually needed.

thanks Charles, i'll pay em a visit and see what they think

btw, what would be the best alternative for for Polcarbonate??

real glass is no go , since i got a frame with no bottom(just a wire) and apparently those frames can't use real glass??

I got glasses at 15. I had no idea that I couldn't see. Everything seemed smaller and further away with glasses, but clearer. (You would have had to be within 10 feet for me to recognize you....and it would have been by the shape of your blurry head, not your face.) Thankfully, I had all summer to adjust. When I went back to school, I could actually read the chalk board (instead of guessing at the faint scribblings...which I could only see if I was in the front row.)

I'm -3.50 in both eyes. My prescription has not changed at all in 13 years. I'm looking forward to Lasik next year!

In polycarbonate, some brands produce less distortion than others, Resolution is a good brand that is usually well tolerated.

In non-polycarbonate, a plastic with a 1.6 index of refraction provides excellent optics with little distortion. Seiko 1.6 Diacoat is a good brand.

I've been wearing glasses for 5 years and I experienced the asame thing you are. I only wore the glasses once in a while at first, then it gradually got to be a full time thing.

My glasses broke last week right in the middle. I went to sav-on and found a pair of reading glasses with almost the exact subscription for $12.
They are actually more comfortable and less intrusive than the $200 glasses that broke.

Lasik is not worth it at anything less than about -3.00. I started wearing glasses at around 14 years of age, longsighted with astigmatism. At age 36 or so I got Lasik'ed with excellent results. Now, at age 46 I am wearing contacts for office work - mostly staring at documents & computer screen. For normal outdoors type viewing I don't need the contacts.

Back on topic - getting your first glasses at age 30 is a big adjustment. I remember the sensation of high-stepping - everything including the ground seemed further away and warped. Just keep at it, your brain is an amazing adaptive organ and it will filter out all the optical illusions (non drug-induced). This is assuming your prescription is correct. If the dizzyness etc persists for more than a week or 2, go back to the opto.

Lasik would be a terrible choice for this 30 year old -1.25 myope, in my opinion.

this board rules, aside from the Porsche related crap , there's this huge DB of talent , skills and experience

ranging from the exact, to the not so exact sciences.. and everything in between... all it takes is a well formulated query ,and the DB responds ...

just make sure to filter out politics

glad to hear about the lasik , i was beeing sort of nugged in that direction , but frankly wasn't ready to have my eyes zapped while they were still sort of working reasonably good...
i felt glasses were enough for the time beeing, and your comments confirm that it was the right thing ( contacts are to much hastle for me , i'de forget takign em out and what not it wouldn't work)
