The Republican Party is Headed for the Abyss

In part, because the original socialist party in America, the Republican Party, has come full circle.

Quote:
The GOP, RIP
They're on the way out – and good riddance
by Justin Raimondo

For a good 75 years, the Republican Party has been the party of conservatism, the anointed vehicle for the hopes and dreams of those who believe in limited government and seek to preserve the legacy of the Founding Fathers.

No more.

It hasn't been true for quite a while, but at least the Republicans were rhetorically committed to conservative principles right up until the second Bush presidency. George W. campaigned on a platform that old-time conservatives found at least recognizable: he opined that Americans ought to be able to keep a larger proportion of their income than the Clinton regime found permissible, and even on foreign affairs he sounded like a Taft Republican of the old school, promising a more "humble" foreign policy.

How far we have wandered off that road!

Under George W. Bush, today's GOP is in the vanguard of the biggest expansion of governmental power since 27 B.C., the year Octavian was crowned with laurel leaves in the Roman Senate, and the yeoman's republic on the Tiber morphed into an Empire.

Government spending has not only increased, it has engulfed us in a veritable tidal wave of unsustainable debt and force-marched us to the brink of bankruptcy. More ominously, the coercive power of government has expanded exponentially, and basic civil liberties – the right to a fair trial, the right to be secure in our own homes, the right to speak out against government policies without being harassed, spied on, and otherwise encumbered by said government – are in danger. The REpublicans are circling the drain. The Democrats have been in the sceptic tank and irrelevant since '93.

Unfortunately, in this country, you only get two choices. This year, I'm voting Democratic. They couldn't possibly do any worse. And this administration is in desperate need of oversight.

When the Dems get fat and corrupt and entrenched, I'll switch to Republican, unless there is a third choice by then.

We will stay the course *** We’re just going to stay the course. [12/15/03]
And my message today to those in Iraq is: We’ll stay the course. [4/13/04]
And that’s why we’re going to stay the course in Iraq. [4/16/04]
And so we’ve got tough action in Iraq. But we will stay the course. [4/5/04]

Like George Carlin said:

"The country is going down the tubes..."

"What tubes?"

"And why are there more than one tube?"

"I've never seen any tubes. Where are they?"

It goes on from there.....

I guess the Communist Party is no longer relevant enough.

So you self described Republicans, do you seriously think its in the best interest of the Republican party to maintain control of both houses?

I don't think so.

The dems have NOTHING to offer, other than being a counter weight to the GOP. But a vote for the DEMs this go around may, ironically, be the best thing for the GOP in the long run.

Beyond a doubt since the alternative is the democrats with nothing to offer but increased taxes and less security.

I would prefer a few more Libertarians in the mix rather than Democrats.

I concur with Fint on this one.

Repubs. deserve to lose. Once the Dems have power again, the Repubs will get serious about doing what their voters wanted them to do in the first place.

Until this year, there was a third choice with the Libertarian Party. The "movers" within the party ransacked the LP platform, making the LP nothing more than Republican Lite, which means I won't be voting for their candidates without a thorough, individual vetting by those I trust, or myself.

Most likely, I may choose another third party. I never vote for either the Republicans or Democrats; they're both corrupt, loutish, and thug like.

We've had a taste of one-party rule in this country the past several years, and it hasn't been pretty.

The only ones that have benifited are the people in power, and the people that own the people in power.

Yes, the similarities to the one party rule during the Roosevelt years is striking.

We need to try "no party rule". Let's reduce the pay levels of Congress each year until it reaches zero pay. That would have a fine effect. We could start with a 50-75% reduction the first year, with a predictable thinning effect, then 5-10% each year after that. Or, even better, go to zero pay immediately.

We'd need a corresponding decrease in authorized power for the executive branch as well. No warfare unless actually invaded and so forth. The Commerce Clause would have to mean what it was originally intended to mean, standardizing commerce between the states. The federal government would not be authorized to prohibit anything.

Let your imagination run on this.

Pass the Kool Aid, Pat. Which Congressmen will be voting to reduce their pay to zero? Hey, I'd love to see it too, but then I always wanted to live inside those Viewfinder Winnie the Pooh discs too. Best way to get Congress to stop passing BS laws would be to eliminate a/c and heat in their office bldgs. Then they'd truly be a part-time legislature. But that ain't gonna happen either.
