Speeding Ticket - What is it going to cost me

While on a road trip between Tulare and Lindsay, CA, got hit with radar at 89 MPH in a 55 MPH.

What is this going to cost me? It has been 4 years since my last ticket, so traffic school might be an option to keep it off my record.

ouch. Couple hundred at least. Might be too high for traffic school, I don't remember the cutoff. Central CA is nasty for radar tickets. You gotta have a detector if you're going to speed on the 2-lane highways...

If it's more than 25 mph over the limit, traffic school is NOT an option (ask me how I know - recently tagged for 77 in a 45).

Bail amount should be about $360-ish. Figure on anywhere between $1,200-$3,000 for legal fees if you want counsel (I'm still considering it) and/or $2,000-$5,000 in jacked-up insurance premiums over the next three years if/when found guilty.

Call an attorney and start there.

Other things worth checking: Calibration logs/records for the radar gun used, engineering survey done within the last five years on the particular roadway, etc. I have names of a few good attorneys if you're interested.

Sorry to hear Michael. If traffic school is not an option, I would at least go to court yourself and ask the judge for traffic school, the worst that could happen is that he would say no and you are no worse off.

What? Attorney's to get out of a ticket? I thought PPOT was the land of "You broke the law, take personal responsibility and pay up!!"

Well, I don't feel so bad now. At least MY Trooper was cool enough to only give me 70 in a 55.

My last ticket was four years ago, 99 in a 70 on the 101 just south of King City. The fine was $271, I thought it was going to cost me a lot more. On the plus side, my insurance never found out, and now its off my record:p

I am not going to fight it as I was doing about 90+, so I feel good that it was only 86.

If it was here in Texas you definitely wouldn't be able to take a Driver's Safety Course. If that's not an option you can ask for Deferred Disposition/Adjudication. Basically it's like probabtion. You get 3 mos or 6 mos with no other tickets and the ticket gets dismissed. There is a fee involved, and here in TX that fee is usually between $200 and $350 depending upon where you are, what the offense was, etc....
